The 1973 Onilson Patero UFO encounter/Abduction Case

The Onilson Pátero Case, is considered one of the classic cases of Brazilian Ufology, was investigated by several nationally renowned ufologists. One of the most prestigious UFO research institutions in Brazil, the Brazilian Society of Flying Saucer Studies (SBEDV), carried out an extensive investigation on the case, publishing a detailed research report in two SBEDV Bulletins, edition 94/98 (September - 1973 / June 1974) and edition 99/103 (July - 74 / April-1975). In this report, SBEDV transcribes research data from other UFO researchers in National Ufology, such as Max Berezovski and Silvio

This is an unedited version of the account without my conclusions as was intended in the fifth AE/CE3K case book Earth: The 'Lost' Contacts.

I have only made a few comments but left the account more-or-less as it was given in the 1970s. I have attempted to track down Patero but have hit a stonewall -Brazilian UFO groups seeming quite unwilling these days to cooperate.

The target of several investigations and speculations over it's veracity, the so-called “Patéro Case” is one of the classics in the history of Brazilian ufology and considered the Brazilian equivalent of Travis Walton case and the strange facts reported by the merchant Onilson Patero were even investigated by the Department of Political and Social Order (DOPS), which, at the time of the Military Dictatorship in Brazil, had the function of monitoring and repressing political movements. and social issues contrary to the established power. In this case Patero disappeared for six days and then  re-appeared over 1000km (621m) from the location of the alleged abduction while his car was still at the abduction site.

On the night of 21st/22nd May, 1973, Onilson Pátero was returning home from the city of Oswaldo Cruz, where he had gone to work. and was on the road heading in the direction of Itajobi, in the north of the State of São Paulo.  He had begun his journey at 23:00hrs and would travel 280 km to Catanduvas, in his 1976 Blue Opala car.  See map of journey below:

Passing the "Salto" bridge of Avanhadava, approximately 150 km from Catanduva, he came across a bank truck parked on the highway and a person hitch-hiking nearby. His first thought was that the person was someone associated with the police station near Avadanha -a security guard?  He decided to give the hitch-hiker and so Patero stopped and the man got into the car and Patero introduced himself and the man identified himself as Alex. Patero offered Alex a cigarette but he refused the offer stating that he did not smoke when he was traveling. Patero noticed that Alex carried something similar to a metal cigarette box which he kept close to his body.

"Salto" bridge of Avanhadava

During the trip Alex asked several questions about Patero - his education level and his way of life, how long he has lived in Catanduva, his time working and so on. Patero answered all of the questions and occasionally asked some himself and one of these was regarding Alex's work and Alex simply replied that he worked on "providing services". Throughout the conversation Alex proved to have a great memory and remembered everything that Patero had said. Here I ought to point out that this was not that long a conversation or journey so that Alex remembered everything Patero told him was far from extraordinary.  At one point Patero told Alex where he lived giving both the house number and street name (not something I would personally give a stranger I had just met).

Now, when Alex was dropped off about an hour and thirty minutes later he thanked Patero for the ride and declared: "One of these days I will pay you a visit, on (Patero's street name)" and giving the house number.  Remember folks; do not give complete and utter strangers you know nothing about your address!

Initially, Alex's destination was to have been Catanduva, the city where Patero was heading but at a certain point, on the Washington Luis highway, at the entrance to the city of Catanduva, he told Patero  that he remembered that his destination was not Catanduva but Itajobi which was located 18 km away.  It was dawn and there was no transportation available to
Itajobi and it was also raining, which is why Patero decided to take Alex to his final destination. When they arrived in the town, Patero left Alex in the central square and refused the money that was offered him. Even with Patero's opposition, Alex placed a 50 cruzeiros bill in the pocket of the shirt he wore. After that, they said goodbye and Patero went home again. He looked at his watch, checking that it was approximately 0300 hrs.

Patero only had 7 kilometers left tbefore he got home but at this point unusual things began to occur; initially Patero noticed  interference on his car radio. as if the volume were being turned down  and then the car's engine started to fail. Shortly after all of this he noticed  a blue light, about 20 cm in diameter, on one of his cars panels.  This "spotlight" shifted to the right, positioning itself on the empty seat beside him. Then the focus of the light went down, moving to the left side in a wave motion and on to the pedals, where it disappeared. Where this beam of light hit the illuminated area was transparent, allowing Patero to see the engine running and the asphalt passing under the vehicle. Intrigued, he looked at the sky through the windshield in order to identify the origin and such phenomenon. However, nothing was seen and the rain was getting heavier.

The car engine was continuing to have problems and this forced Patero to slow down. After 500 meters Patero noticed an intense light object just ahead of his car. From this light came a stronger beam of light pointed in his direction. When approaching the object along the road the light became so intense and blinding that Patero had to protect his eyes. Thinking that this was another vehicle coming from the opposite direction he signaled four times, alternating between high and low headlights. There was no response. The car engine failures had intensified and further reduced the vehicle performance. Patero slowed down to the first gear and fearing a collision with the supposed oncoming vehicle he turned his car to the road`s hard shoulder, where he stopped. He was unable to see if he was still partly on the road or off due to the light that was blinding him.

At this point, he realized that the entire electrical system of his vehicle was inoperative; engine, headlights, radio and dashboard were no longer working. He took off his glasses and was afraid he had hit another vehicle and realizing that the supposed oncoming vehicle had not passed he decided to look at the source of such light. To his surprise, he observed an object suspended in the sky. It was circular in shape, like two overlapping plates.

Patero, still sitting in the driver's seat,  felt very hot and so he opened the door and put his right foot out onto the road and it was at this point that he noticed that a kind of field started circulating the object; at the same time that he felt the temperature lessen.  Patero remained watching the object until a type of cylinder started coming out of it and this descended to the ground while the main object approached his position.  Patero was frightened and thought of running away on foot and decided to run away towards the city of Itajobi and entering a forest and then trying to reach Catanduva. However, Patero only ran about 30 meters before  something made him stop moving, although he did not actually see what it was holding him. He turned towards the car and noticed that the object was close to the car and illuminating it with the ray of light. Amazed, he realized that his car was all transparent like glass. Then Patero suddenly lost  consciousness.

The following morning policeman Clóvis Queiroz, was in his guardhouse at the junction Catanduva-Presidente Washington Luiz, when, just before 0500 hrs, he approached by two man and they told him that they were driving their Kombi vehicle along the Itajobi road and had found a man lying next to a Blue Opal with whose doors open and the headlights on. The men were concerned that there had either been an accident or robbery and that Patero was dead.

Immediately, Queiroz drove to the given location and once there he positioned his car so as to illuminate the scene and the supposed victim, who was still lying down. When Queiroz lent over to examine Patero he realized that he was alive he tried to turn him over; immediately, Patero woke up and tried to free himself from the policeman, but Queiroz calmed him and asked what had happened. Patero declared: "They want to catch me ...". but as soon as he succeeded in freeing himself from the policemen he identified himself and narrated all  that had happened.

At this point, a truck was approaching and Queiroz signaled for the driver to stop. Then he took the driver to Patero and said:? "There are three people here now. I demand you to tell us who wants to catch you." Faced with such a question, Patero declared: "The situation here is serious... it is no joke". Still incredulous, the policeman considered Patero to have had an epileptic attack and thought it best to refer him for treatment. He went to the car to close it and noticed an open road map. He questioned Patero as to whether he had consulted the map, before fainting or driving off the road. Patero denied this and said that the map was kept in a case next to the driver`s seat.   Both men inspected the location and found the folder open on the seat with the papers rummaged through and scattered on the seat and floor of the vehicle; the key to the case was still in Patero's pocket and he reaffirmed that he had not opened the case and removed the papers.

Shortly afterwards, Queiroz took Patero  to the emergency room of Santa Casa de Catanduva, where he was seen by the doctor Dr. Elias Azis Chediak, and he underwent clinical examinations, neurological and psychological tests, but nothing unusual was found. A strange fact observed by all involved is that Patero was driving in the rain and yet he and  his car  were dry.

Patero's wife, upon receiving the news that her husband was at the hospital, picked up new clothes and went to Santa Casa. Upon arriving she found her husband and was astonished, that his hair was black instead of brown, his natural color. The natural color only reappeared 3 or 4 days after she took him home. Unfortunately there appear to have been no hair samples taken at this time.

Another physiological disorder that troubled Patero was a strange itch that appeared shortly after the event. Dr. Chediak prescribed a medication and recommended that Patero return the next day, to complete his examination.

Alleged Second Abduction

On 26th April, 1974, Patero informed his wife, Dona Lourdes, that he was going to have lunch earlier at home, as he was going out on business to the city of Julio de Mesquita (approximately 160 km from Catanduva). And so he left at 1230 hrs. Patero arrived in Júlio de Mesquita at 1500 hrs, he did not meet the mayor with whom, according to a previous arrangement at 1530hrs  regarding the sale of a library to the city. Patero was a representative of a company that specialized in this field.

The mayor Antônio Soares,  arrived at 1730hrs and did not finalize the purchase, claiming that he would first have to listen to the opinion of the teaching supervisor  in the neighbouring city (Marília). Patero then decided to continue his trip to Marília (30 km away), but again, the teaching supervisor was absent. Frustrated, he had a quick snack and started the trip back home at 2230 hrs.

Patero had previously had sold his 1976 Blue Opala (shortly after his alleged abduction) and was now traveling in a Bluish Volkswagen Beetle. Around 2330hrs, he was 15 km from Guarantã, and 120 km from Catanduva. About 200 meters from the Voltage Station Line of Cia. Elétrica de São Paulo, when he observed a bluish luminosity running parallel along the wires. At that moment, the car's engine started to fail at the same time. Remembering  his first experience, Patero decided to go ahead and drive past the roads speed limit to avoid a new contact.

His escape, however, was thwarted because the car's engine died and this forced Patero to pull into to the roads hard-shoulder. As soon as he stopped the car he noticed an identical object, or perhaps the same object seen on the first occasion. Frightened, Patero once again decided to flee on foot but as he opened the car door and was about to put his feet on the ground he realized that some kind of metallic treadmill instantly appeared under his feet. That treadmill started moving towards the object with Patero unable to move. Suddenly he found himself in an oval room on board the object.

In this room, he saw none other than Alex, the hitch-hiker from before his first experience. He wore the same clothes that night and came over to Patero smiling and saying that nothing bad would happen to him. This communication was heard perfectly by Patero but when he tried to answer he did not hear his own words.

In the middle of the room there was a great blue luminosity, which apparently came from the ceiling (about 3.5 meters/11.4ft high), which was the shape of a dome, where many wires were seen crossing over like cobwebs in 3 to 4 layers . Along the wall of the room, at a height of approximately 1 meter (3,2ft) from the floor, a bluish light moved in circular motion. Alex then asked Patero to sit in a chair with a high back and a soft seat which looked like rubber.

Patero doesn't know how long he had stayed in the first room as he was only conscious  for 1 to 2 minutes. He only became conscious when he was already in another room that was similar to the first. There were wires in the ceiling and around the wall a shiny metal tube, about 30 cm thick, was arranged in circle format and also lights arranged in circumference parallel to the tube and approximately 1 span above it. In addition, there were 3 to 4 points of light on the wall that used to turn off in the same way as you see on an old  TV screen when it is turned off.

Alex was also in this room and asked Patero to take off his clothes and to put on another set of new clothes (Alex helped him). The clothing was made of a fabric that looked like it was made of metallic threads, with aspects of matte-gloss nylon, and that covered Patero down to the feet. The clothes fit his body and felt soft inside. He doesn't know if there were wires that connected the clothes to the wall.  Patero again heard Alex's explanations but he couldn't hear his own questions.

He also saw that on the wall a window of approximately 1.5 m in length and 60 cm in width and through this noticed in the adjoining compartment the movement of people who seemed to be sitting on chairs - he could only see the silhouette above the waist. The chairs seemed to be motorized or moving in some way as these people moved while keeping their bodies immobile, which would no longer happen if they were walking on their own feet. The people, who at most were three together at a time, were covered by hoods that were part of the very clothes they wore -if only silhouettes then how could he see head coverings?.

(c)2024 respective copyright holder

Alex, then said "you are going to see a maneuver" and passed his hand over a place on the wall, where, afterwards, a 40 cm wide viewfinder came out, allowing a view out of the Flying Saucer. Patero was then given a helmet to put on and which fitted around his neck but didn't caused shortness of breath. The helmet had a visor on the front and Patero had the impression that when it was placed on his head he ended up seeing better and farther away, perfectly distinguishing the landscape. He did not know if it was day or night outside but he distinguished a valley, where there was a city that seemed to him to be in Europe as it consisted of houses with high and steep roofs and there also appeared to be church towers.
Distant from the city, perhaps 2000 meters from it, an egg-shaped formation emerged from the ground, 4 to 5 meters wide, which was accompanied by a white cloud and it rose into the air and approached the craft Patero was on. . If the egg-shaped object had entered the same flying saucer Patero was on then he guess that it was elsewhere and not in the section where he was.

Alien's Mission

Alex then explained that his job on the planet was to remove a certain substance from Earth which could be easily manipulated by humans and was fatal for flying saucers of various non war-faring species who visited Earth. This substance existed on Earth in abundance and would inevitably be discovered by its inhabitants sooner or later. However, "they" were studying the material to find a defence against its use in the future.

Patero listened carefully as Alex further explained that in the future he hoped other civilizations could reach an understanding with humanity but if that was not the case a fine powder similar to smoke would be released into the atmosphere that would "not hurt a butterfly" but would "achieve their goals" which it has to be pointed out that Alex did not explain. Nice alien that he was, Alex explained also that "if necessary" they would abduct Patero again... but this time together with another person of a much more important status  on Earth.

Then Alex  placed metallic bracelets, yellow and opaque, onto Patero's wrists and ankles and these which did not bother him. After being in this second room for about 5 minutes -?- he was placed into something that looked like a styrofoam mold embedded in the floor and in which there was room for the whole body. However, Patero doesn't know how long he stayed in that "device" because he doesn't remember anything else. He only knows that when he regained consciousness he was already dressed  in his own clothes and in another more spacious compartment but without Alex around.

The last room that Patero remembers being in was semi-cylindrical shape, 12 to 15 meters in diameter (42ft to 48ft) and he was sitting on a chair in a row of another 5 to 6  placed in the middle. There was still, in the center of the room, a shiny metallic cylinder, about 40 cm in diameter, that reached the ceiling of the hall and that was of a height of about 10 to 15 meters (38ft to 48ft). In the corner to his left, there was nothing but to his right were three hooded people standing and whose loose clothes extended to their feet. They had the regular height of a human being, of approximately 1.70m (5'5). (Patero referred to these as "doctors"). One of them was sitting in front of a screen. Another looked at Patero and the third was observing some objects present in the room.

It was at that moment that a new character emerged: a human individual identical to Patero in its smallest details. The doppleganger wore an identical outfit to the one that Patero wore on the day of his 1st abduction some 11 months earlier. The duplicate stayed in this room for a while before leaving. Shortly thereafter, three other people, also of a human appearance, entered the room before disappearing shortly thereafter. All of this did not last more than three minutes.

The next memory Patero had was of being disembarked from the object through the same conveyor belt that captured him at the beginning of his experience. It somehow placed Patero gently on the grass somewhere unknown to him and he sat on the grass and watched the object leave. He looked at his watch and saw that it was already 0315 hrs.  Looking around he saw lights from a city in the distance and lights from vehicles traveling on a highway in a nearby valley. Patero started running downhill towards this road.

The descent of the hill and the returnal

The descent of the hill with the absence of moonlight and in very rough terrain was desperate and every so often over the next three hours  he would call out for help.   When Patero reached a larger boulder, already close to the road, he decided to rest because he had injured a foot in a crack in the ground and also had cramps. While he was standing to rest for about 15 to 20 minutes, a thunderstorm started which brought him greater cheer. He then took shelter under a sloping stone, where he marked his passage through the place with a pocket knife engraving the initials of his name.

At daybreak he arrived at the base of the hill where he saw a group of people. He approached, identified himself and asked for help to reach a Police Station as he wanted to warn his relatives that he was okay. He told one of the farmers who helped him, called Cesar Menelli, about his experience. The farmer took him to his own home where Patero took a shower and made Onilson a snack.

Although Patero had told his wife that he would return the same day that she left the house, Dona Lourdes was concerned although she maintained a calm appearance in the face of her husband's disappearance. Patero had travelled on Friday, 26h  April and Patero never returned and certainly never contacted his wife or family to explain the delay in getting home. On Tuesday, 30th April, 1974, a message was received came from the Guarantã Police Station stating that they found Patero's vehicle three days earlier (at the location he claims that he was allegedly abducted from). The vehicle was apparently in good order with no signs of an accident or robbery. There were no signs or clues as to the whereabouts of Patero, who was then declared officially missing. Family members sought information in hospitals, without obtaining any clue about his whereabouts.

The following day, Wednesday 1st Ma, Éder Pátero, brother of Patero, his nephew Antônio Chagas and his brother-in-law Francisco Sanches, started a new search. First they checked Onilson's car, held at the Guarantã Police Station, and found no clue. They then retraced the likely route that Patero would have taken on his trip, visiting roadside farms, cities, hospitals and police stations. Thus, they passed through Marília Pirajuí, Pongaí, Cafelândia, Guarantã, Novo Horizonte and Júlio de Mesquita, and in the latter they sought out the mayor himself, with whom Patero had spoken on the day of his disappearance.

On Thursday, 2nd May, family members received a call informing them that Onilson Pátero had reappeared in Colatina, Espírito Santo. They immediately started the journey to pick him up in Colatina. Upon meeting Patero, it appeared that he was a little pale. And at around 1300 hrs on 4th Ma, they made their way back home. By this time, the story of Pátero's disappearance and reappearance had already reached the press and several reporters were committed to covering the abduction. Twelve kilometers from Colatina, reporters awaited the passage of the Pátero family at the entrance of the Catuá farm, owned by Mr. Menelli (where Onilson was a guest).

The reporters then asked Patero to go up with them to the rock where he had engraved his name while marking his descent down the hill . Reporters not only confirmed the existence of the marked rock but also photographed it, publishing it in the newspaper "O Vespertino", in Vitória, on 6th May, 1974.

The family's investigations and his search trip resulted in considerable expenses, in addition to working days wasted by Eder, during the search period for Patero. Doctors did examine Patero and noticed injection points on his body. Patero had disappeared for 6 days and was found in a point 1000km(620 miles) away from his car.

Onilson never saw Alex or had a strange experience again.

The 1947 Villa Santina Encounter -Fact, Fiction Or Something Else?

I dealt with this case in UFO Contact? which involved a fair bit of research to get to actual facts since I found that various sources either mis-translated the Clypeus article or added silly things. With copy and paste being the main 'research tool' these days I saw one account after another where it was said Johannis was waving his paint brushes around and that the aliens probably thought this was a threat; read Johannis's account in which he clearly describes what happened and no paint brushes were involved!

Of course there were onliners -the usual pretend 'Ufologists' waiting for the next big craze to jump over to- who noted that Johannis described "what we would today call Grey aliens" -the description is absolutely nothing like a 'Grey' and this is just idiots trying to re-write and reboot UFO history and reports -Hopkins, Jacobs, Carpenter and others promoted the 'Grey' for profit and in two of the individuals cases, very sordid reasons.

Here are the facts and if you purchase UFO Contact you get to read more.

R. L. Johannis' Account

"During the first half of August 1947 I was in a small village called Raveo, near Villa Santina, in Carnia (Friuli). I spent a large part of the summers in that district where I am consequently well known.

"I have always been interested in geology and anthropology, and I spent all my leisure time studying these, my favourite sciences, an integral and indispensable part of which involves the systematic search for fossils.

"On the morning of August 14, 1947, as usual, I was making my way again up the short valley of the mountain stream called the Chiarso. This valley ends on the lower slopes of the central mountain massif, the Carnico del Col Gentile. I had with me a small knapsack and my geologist’s pick.

"1 was following a path along the left bank of the stream (which was almost dry) which winds up through clumps of fir trees and deposits of alluvial rubble and detritus. On my right the face of the mountain, with a gradient of about 45 degrees, towered away, consisting of fractured and weathered rock mixed with layers of gypsum.

"As I emerged from one of these clumps of fir I noticed, on the rocky river bank, and at a distance of about 50 metres from me, a large lenticular object of vivid red colour. I am slightly short-sighted, and so I quickly put my glasses on. When I had arrived at a spot a few steps distant from the ‘thing’, I was able to establish the fact that it was a disc—seemingly of varnished metal like the metal of an ordinary toy—having the shape of a lens and a low central cupola with no apertures. At its tip a sort of shining metallic antenna, of telescopic form, was protruding, roughly similar to those we have on our present-day motor-cars.

"(And here I must state straight away that I knew nothing whatever in those days of flying saucers and I do not think that the Italian newspapers had even started to talk about them.)

"The object, some 10 metres wide, was embedded, to the extent of about a quarter of its length, in a great transverse cleft in the friable rock of the mountain side, and was at a height of about 6 metres above the bed of the stream.

"Without more ado I decided that I would climb up there to it and see what it was, but first of all (and anybody else would have done the same) I looked round to see whether there was anybody about who—should the need arise—could help me.

"It was then that I perceived, at a distance of 50 metres or so from me, right on the edge of the grove of trees from which I bad just emerged, two ‘boys’. At any rate, that is what they seemed to be, at first.

"I shouted to them and pointed to the disc. And then I started towards them. When I had halved the distance between them and myself, I stopped, petrified.

"The two ‘boys’ were dwarfs, the likes of which I had never seen nor even imagined. They were coming towards me slowly, with tiny strides, with their hands at their sides and their heads motionless. When they had come to a few paces from me, they halted. I had no strength left, I seemed to be paralysed, or to be dreaming. But I was still able to observe them in every detail. And those details have remained impressed upon me so indelibly that even now I could make a portrait or even a statue of those extraordinary beings. However I must confess that the dominating sentiment in me then was one of enormous astonishment combined with fear, as you will well understand.

"They were no more than 90 centimetres in height, and were wearing dark blue coloured overalls made of some material that I would not know how to describe. ‘Translucent’ is the only term for it. They had collars and rather deep belts, all of a vivid red colour. Even the cuffs and the shins of the legs ended in ‘collars’ of the same type.

"Their heads, according to the impression that I got, were bigger than the head of a normal man, and gave them a caricaturish aspect. But I think the sight of their ‘faces’ would have put an end to anybody’s desire to laugh.

"At this point, I am obliged to explain that the terms I have used in this description are purely indications, and are of a purely anthropomorphic nature, because I don’t know, today, whether those things that I have defined as nose, mouth, eyes, and hands were like that or whether it would be more correct to name them in some other way.

"They had no signs of hair but in place of it they were wearing a sort of dark brown tight-fitting cape like an alpinist’s bonnet.

"The ‘skin’ of their faces was an earthy green (verde terroso). The only colour that comes close to it is that of the plasticine commonly used by sculptors or of clay dipped in water. The ‘nose’ was straight, geometrically cut, and very long. Beneath it was a mere slit, shaped like a circumflex accent, which I saw opening and closing again at intervals, very much like the mouth of a fish. The ‘eyes’ were enormous, protruding and round. Their appearance and colour were like the colour of two well ripened yellow-green plums (due prugne giallo-verdi ben mature).

"In the centre of the eyes I noticed a kind of vertical ‘pupil’. I saw no traces of eyebrows or eyelashes, and what I would have called the eyelids consisted of a ring, midway between green and yellow, which surrounded the base of those hemispherical eyes just like the frame of a pair of spectacles.

"I remained there in astonishment, for what seemed to me an interminably long time, gazing at the two extraordinary creatures. Only later was I able to calculate roughly how long it was. I think the silent confrontation lasted no more than two or three minutes. Then I raised my arm with the pick and waved it in their direction and then in the direction of the disc, and, in an agitated voice, I shouted and asked who they were, where they came from, and if I could be of any help to them. They wheeled round very quickly and I can’t remember what I said after that, for things began to happen fast.

"I now believe that the two beings had interpreted my precipitate gestures as being threatening to them. But I don’t know for sure, and don’t suppose I ever shall. What is certain is that one of them raised his right hand to his belt, and from the centre of the belt there came something that seemed as though it might be a thin puff of smoke. I now think it was a ray or something of the sort. Anyway, before I had time to move or do anything, I found myself laid out full length on the ground. My pick shot out of my hand, as though snatched by an invisible force,

"Only once in my life have I had the experience of suffering a ‘violent electric shock. That was in 1924, when I was a student at the Technical Institute in Udine, and the physics professor made us all form a chain and take the charge from a Leyden jar.

"Well, I can only tell you that as soon as I was struck by that smoke-ray, I felt a similar sensation. Moreover I felt myself deprived of all strength and all my efforts to raise myself meant an expenditure of energy that was beyond me.

"Meanwhile, the two midgets were coming towards me, and they halted at a spot 2 metres from me, where my pick had fallen. I managed to roll over on to one side and I saw one of them bend down and pick up the tool, which was longer than he was. And this was how I was able to see his green ‘hand’ quite distinctly. It had eight fingers, four of them opposable to the others! It wasn’t a hand: it was a claw, and the fingers were without joints.

"I also noticed that the chests of the two beings were quivering: like a dog’s chest when it pants after a long run.

"I made fantastic efforts to get up, and finally managed a sitting position. But I had to brace my arms against the ground so as not to fall back again.

"Meanwhile the two entities had arrived beneath the disc. I saw them climb up, slowly but surely, to the cleft in the rock and disappear into the disc itself, which was imbedded almost vertically in the rock.

"A few more minutes elapsed, and then the strange object shot straight out from the rock and rose into the air. A cascade of stones and earth fell down on to the bed of the river. And that was the only noise that broke the silence in that lonely spot. The stream, being at low water, was trickling silently over the pebbles.

"The disc remained there stationary in the air, like an enormous suspended gong. I could distinctly see its sharply cut flange 4 or 5 metres from me, and for a moment I was seized with terror that it was going to come down and cut me in half like a worm.

"I am not sure, but I think I shouted at the top of my voice. At any rate, I am certain that I made every effort to get up and escape. The result was that I kept falling back again, supine and racked with pain.

"Meanwhile, the disc had tipped slightly away from its vertical position. Then it suddenly grew smaller, and vanished. Immediately afterwards, I was struck by a tremendous blast of wind (the air shock?), which rolled me over and over on the ground and filled my eyes with dust. I ended up against the stones in the river bed and remained there for I don’t know how long. Finally I managed to get into a sitting position again and it was then that I looked at my wrist watch. It was 9.14.

"But it was only at about midday that I was in a fit state to get back home. In the meantime, I even slept for an hour. My bones all felt as if they were broken and my legs were weak and trembling, as though after a fearful bout of drinking. I looked in my rucksack for my thermos flask of coffee, and was not surprised to find it shattered to pieces, but what did surprise me was not being able to find any trace of its metal casing. Also gone were my aluminium fork and an aluminium can that had contained my cold lunch.’

"Everything had been soaked with coffee, including a pack of cards with sketches of the region which I usually carried with me.

"I had to be content with bread soaked in coffee and throw away the salami and all the rest.

"Finally I should add that I searched in vain for my pick, which would have been very useful to me at that point as a walking stick.

"At 2 p.m. I reached Raveo and went to bed. I told the proprietress of the inn where I was staying that I had fallen from a rock, and she replied that served me right for it was high time I stopped going around picking up stones (she has known me for more than thirty-five years since I was a boy).

"Next morning I armed myself with another pick and—I confess—with a revolver, and went back to the spot. Naturally there was nobody there. I climbed right up to the cleft in the rock since I thought the two creatures might have thrown my old pick—to which I was very much attached—in there, but I found nothing.

"I believe that that old pick of mine is now in a museum on some other planet. I hope that somebody up there is trying to decipher the marks cut in the handle, my name and a mountaineering motto, and a pair of stylised alpine flowers, and an eagle. And I hope they rack their brains to a standstill trying to make it out.

"Finally I must tell you that at that time I tried to explain my strange adventure in many different ways, but none of them having anything whatever to do with flying saucers or other craft of extra-terrestrial origin. At first I thought the ‘saucer’ was an experimental machine of the allied forces which were then in occupation of the Campoformido aerodrome in the Friuli area. My next thought was of some device of Russian origin. Finally, I wondered about some unknown civilisation still hidden away in some unexplored regions of the world like the Matto Grosso of Brazil. The most absurd hypotheses could be adapted to fit my extraordinary adventure. But not one of them was satisfactory, since not one of them could account for the presence of those two little men.

"Anybody else in my position would have decided that the sensible thing to do was to say absolutely nothing whatever to anybody about what had happened. And this was what I did, quite consciously. I had no wish to be considered a crazy visionary, or worse, and I don’t think anyone could blame me.

"Two months later, I sailed for New York. During the crossing I heard for the first time about the flying saucers seen by Kenneth Arnold. Only then did I realise that I had seen a flying saucer.

"During my five years in the U.S.A. I followed with the greatest of interest all developments in the ‘flying saucer story’, and in 1950 I decided to relate my experience to two persons in whom I have confidence, who can give their testimony about it at any time, and whose addresses I have given to the president of the Centro Studi Clipeologici in Turin which has now been good enough to publish my account,

"In 1952, before returning to Italy, I read an article in the weekly review L’Europeo, about the book by the American Scully, who spoke of two flying saucers that had landed in America and, as he stated quite clearly, contained the corpses of little men. Then I sent a letter from New York to the director of L’Europeo, asking him to publish the account of my experience which, at any rate, possessed the merit of priority in time.

"When, two months later, I returned to Italy, I went to Milan, and called upon the director of L’Europeo. There I was told that the subject was an interesting one but that, in order that it could be published, it was necessary for me to furnish ‘proofs’ (I) of its authenticity.

"I replied that if on that morning in August 1947 I had imagined that I was going to encounter creatures from another world, 1 would certainly not have hesitated for one moment to take along with me a whole troop of journalists, cinematographers and (why not?) a company of soldiers too.

"As a result of my experience, I had made enquiries in the village next day (August 15, 1947), as to whether anybody had noticed any sort of ‘aeroplane’ the day before. Two people (an old man and a boy) told me, separately, that they had seen one, in the one case at 8.30 a.m. and in the other case at approximately 10 a.m. The old man had been sitting down in the village square enjoying the sunshine. He noticed a red globe being ‘carried aloft by the wind’ behind the mountain on the slope of which the village lies. The boy was with his mother and other people, working in a field scarcely outside the village, and he noticed a red ball (‘like the ones they have at fairs’) which was rising at great speed and vanished in the clear sky.

"That is all that I have been able to gather in the way of ‘local testimony’. It is doubtful whether it would have been of any interest to the director of L’Europeo.

"And with that, my story is finished. I will only add that I was deeply disgusted by the mean campaign of vilification which has been carried on in the U.S.A. in connection with the matter of flying saucers and which I followed closely in all its details between October 1947 and 1952. And my disgust ended by turning into bitterness here in Europe when I realised the enormous levity with which the important question of the flying saucers is treated. I say ‘levity’, because I don’t regard as worthy of any sort of consideration at all the hoaxes and the frauds perpetrated for the purpose of making money or for witless propaganda.

"And I must conclude this brief account with a warning similar to the one with which the American, Major Donald E. Keyhoe, closes his book Flying Saucers from Outer Space.

"‘There are intelligent beings that are coming from outer space and have been observing us for years, perhaps for centuries. Perhaps there will be beings similar to us. Others might be very different from us as regards their physical aspect (I am not sure about this).

"‘We must be ready, at any time, for meetings with these beings, and ready to demonstrate that we are “civilised”. When? Perhaps tomorrow or perhaps in two centuries from now. We don’t know. But it is certain that, immediately, at the first meeting, we must give them the impression that we are in fact not their enemies. Because, while we can surely learn from them things that will increase our scientific knowledge, we might be treated by them on the same level as inferior beings or savages. And we cannot deny that our own “highly civilised” exploratory expeditions in Africa, Australia, Malaysia and Arizona, have answered the poor arrows of the natives with their more lethal leaden bullets. What sort of reply might the “flying saucer people” give to our modern weapons? The mysterious power (magnetic?) which silently drives their craft should make us think.’ "

Having received a copy of UFO Contact? this is what the J. Allen Hynek Centre for UFO Studies had to say about it:

"...an impressive body of work. I appreciate your lively writing, use of original sources as much as possible, and forceful opinions about the cases, investigators, etc. And I concur with your evaluations of cases that have been pushed aside, such as Kelly, or Pascagoula."

Other UFO researchers who have read the book are of similar opinions. So are you going to just carry on reading the same old same old half truths and lies or try to find out what is REALLY going on?

Since 1947 it has been claimed that UFOs/flying saucers are evidence of aliens visiting the Earth.  Since the 1950s claims of encounters with landed craft and alien beings were talked about but not taken seriously.

In the 1960s the subject of UFO abduction was a "slow-burner" until the whole "Grey" abduction phenomenon and claims made by researchers such as Budd Hopkins, Prof. John Mack and Dr David Jacobs and Whitley Streiber.

But is there evidence to back up any of the claims -and what about those encountering Alien Entities but who were not abducted?

Are these people all hoaxers, psychotic or suffering from some other mental illness as some claim?

Are those people who were exposed by Ufologists against their wishes, people who wanted to report what happened and then just get back to their everyday lives -thrust into the media glare against their will?

And if US authorities were so interested that in one case at least they broke into the home of two abductees and this was later proven -why?

Why did a hard core of these people never want publicity or to make money from what happened to them?

Above all, why did a major UFO landing incident take place on a US Inbterstate road in front of a large number of observers (all willing to talk to investigators) never get investigated? If it were not for a radio presenter interviewing and taking notes we would know nothing of the case -it would be labelled "insubstantial".

James and Coral Lorensen -the Scopolamine Kids; using a very notorious "truth drug" on alleged UFO witnesses and selling stories to newspapers.  An investigator (a veteran) showing a witness images of "aliens" encountered in other cases before any memories were retrieved.  Worst of all, the constant "pissing competition" and breaches of trust between UFO investigators.

2017 is the time to assess the past evidence and look at the faults within Ufology.

Not everyone is going to be happy -debunkers or ufologists.

INCREDIBLY ODD: Ten Very Strange Encounters with UFOs and Humanoids

The Ville de Trancas case is dealt with in Contact

The Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) says that we may have to wait many thousands of years before any signals sent gets a response if they are detected.

The real SETI may already have established the there is alien life –and it has been visiting Earth for at least 70 years.

Once the mass of reports of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and entity encounters are sifted there remains a strong core of cases that defy logical explanation and suggest that these encounters have resulted in physiological effects and post traumatic stress.

Terry Hooper-Scharf of the CE3K/AE Project has led research into these reports for over 40 years and in this work takes a look at rare or obscure reports as well as cataloguing encounters from Germany and Portugal and focuses in on correlations in the reports and how the Dandenong (Kelly Cahill) encounter could be the best case ever reported.

Have the serious investigators and researchers looking into UFOs been unearthing better evidence of extra terrestrial life and contact with humans than established SETI ?

They Laughed and Ignored The Reports in 1947 and 77 Years Later Still No Interest

I have to say that I had thought European UFO groups might be far more cooperative than those in the United States where there is no interest in cooperation.  However, to date I have had absolutely no feedback or responses to messages over the last 9 years!  In fact until I checked something earlier I had no idea that I had started this blog in 2015.

Just how bad has "Ufology" become?  Back in the 1970s-early 1990s, in the days of letter writing, exchange of information was weekly or monthly and from all over the world. Now no one seems interested in an aspect of UFOs that is one of the most important because, the cases that turn out to be seemingly genuine can give us clues as to who/what controls the UFOs. And yet, we are still in the "ignore it" mindset after 77 years (if we take 1947 as "the start" of Ufology.

If there are any serious researchers out there -in Europe, Australia, the United States or where ever -please get in touch!  blacktowercg@hotmail.com and subject should be marked UFO encounters to bypass spam.

Thank You

1973 –Year of the “Global UFO Wave”
1973 –The “Year of the Humanoids”
1973 –The year of the Pascagoula alien abduction claim
1973 –Several witnesses observed two Unidentified Flying Objects: one temporarily landed on a US Interstate road while the other hovered close-by. An entity appeared from the landed object. A car driver approaching from the opposite direction stops, turns his/her car and races off. This is classed as a Major Incident in Ufology.
1973 –a driver observes a landed UFO and entities and opens fire with his gun when he felt threatened. A High Strangeness account.
Neither of these cases was investigated despite requests for local investigators to do so. Even in 2020 the idea of opening up either as a cold case was flatly Rejected by America’s ‘top UFO investigation’ group.
Reports now probably lost to history.
1973 –a year in which UFO reports from African-Americans were frowned upon and ignored. Nothing has changed.
