I am open...

For the last three weeks I have been posting and putting a lot of effort into this blog and view numbers have increased...but not a single comment or question???!!!

Come on you must be visiting the blog for a reason and I am open to answering questions so ask.

Archives! Archives!

I have said before that I seriously do not think that my almost 50 years of research will last long after my own demise. As you get older and you think back to those who had their archives pilfered and work used after their deaths it gets sobering.

My hallway cupboard serves as the storage area for my UFO/CE3K files as well as the full to the brim work on exotics since 1977. Add to that my work on canids and felids since 1976 and it is a lot of paperwork. Letters, case reports, photos and much more never seen by anyone else. A unique collection which my family assures me will be in the burner after a week!

Most of the exotics work (Exotic Animals Register -EAR) is not seen here but is to the left out of frame. To the extreme right and hidden by the large Historical files is one dedicated to something that has occupied my attention since the 1970s -The False Lights of Durham 1965-1866. The historical files are packed full of historical UFO reports from AD 1-1947 and you might ask why there are three folders. The answer is simple: the original volume contained every "UFO" report from as many books and periodicals as possible and it was through these and studying them that I came up with the three categories of UFO report.

Further study and research then led me to completing a list of historical UFO cases that could be clearly identified. Further work led to more amendments and updates to a revised volume. We are talking  almost 2000+ pages to which separate files can be added.

The above is the first volume of Historical Reports and you can see it is bulky and considering the folders they are in were first replaced in the 1980s they need to be replaced which is something I hope to do this year ("hope").

Above: the second Historical Reports folder. In these folders are the original analyses of the Robozero Incident and the possible explanations that were looked into and conclusions.

Above: Yes, if you look closely you will notice that a typewriter was used. Thousands of typed pages that saw me work 0800-0200hrs on most days and I did go through three old typewriters!

Above: Regulars should recognise this as the old United States CE3K/AE file which is now divided up into a number of smaller folders now.

That is going to be some fire!

The problem is that hopes of digitally storing all of the work is a fantasy.  I have pointed out how much time (3 years at least) and how much (estimated at £30,000( it will take and that is just not a reality and I really wanted to make the archives FREE to everyone. Today I started to update the United States 1950s file and...ran out of copier paper and also plastic document sleeves to keep the files protected. I ran out of printer ink but, luckily, I had some bottled ink left as I do my own cartridge refills.  Why?  Well, had I purchased new ink cartridges throughout 2021 the total cost would have been over £2000 ($2000). Doing my own refills is a pain but if I did not so much would still be sitting there unrecorded and filed for posterity.

Again: "Why don't you just scan the documents?" and again I point out that I do not have a scanner and the PC I use I have hammered into working again so many times I do not think it capable of handling the work.

It is no secret and there is no sense in hiding the fact that you are -for anything requiring money- financially broke. Over the years I have tried to get money to keep the archives going and even added the PayPalMe box. Zero. NO ONE offers grants for UFO research let alone archiving work. For the wildlife archive I may have someone who can take that on. The UFO work.... well, there's the problem....

The Sinister, Frightening and Strange Case of JS

Note: I found out that JS had been asking for Ufologists in Scotland as well as some prominent British ones for help for some time. This was confirmed by back checking UFO forums and blogs. As I note not a single Ufologist was interested and when I asked on some of the forums I was told that they knew JS had posted before and asked for help and that was it. Not even an excuse offered as to why no one had investigated and as Scotland was too far away to travel as an unpaid researcher I had to chat with JS (he reluctantly) online.

A hoax?  Well that would certainly be easy to spot at a first meeting and JS was willing (at first) to talk to Ufologists.  We will never know because Ufologists seemed to be either too lazy or too scared to get involved.

***************************************************************************

It was one of the very rare times that I have ever had someone leave me a comment on my AOP blog:

"Terry -have you seen this one?" which was short and to the point and I followed the link given to a Scottish UFO forum where it seemed anything but actual cases was the subject matter.  There was "JS" (I have his real name on record) and his account and he was asking for help or advice but what was frustrating to see was that no one had bothered to respond to his request –and that had been posted a long time before I found it.

Were these Ufologists or UFO fans on the forum?  The latter it seemed although I could not rule out the possibility that some were probably scared to get involved: I have met Ufologists who do not want to meet or investigate alleged abduction cases because they think that they could also end up getting abducted.  So I tracked down JS’s email, which was no easy task, and contacted him.  I have only deleted personal information from the email exchanges

Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2008

From: aopbureau@yahoo.co.uk

"Hello.

My name is Terry Hooper and for 40+ years I have specialized in alien-entity/creature reports -associated/not associated with UFOs.

I read about your encounter earlier this year on the UFO Casebook forum and wondered whether you could give me any further details and, possibly, a rough sketch of what you saw that I can work on (I'm also an artist) and a photo of the site in question?

What I would like to do is draw an illo of what you saw set at the location where seen.  Any indication of any colour to the head/body?  Any additional information you can give I can then form into a report.  A copy would, obviously, be sent to you.

I'm sure you probably have some questions to ask me first so please do.

Obviously, I would like a real name -BUT THIS WOULD NOT BE REVEALED TO ANYONE ELSE AND CERTAINLY NOT INCLUDED IN ANY REPORT.  In 40+ years I have never broken a confidence which probably makes me a better bet than the Ministry of Defence!

I want to emphasise that I am a serious investigator/researcher. So, please, consider my request.

In case you get any problems with this mail address please try xxxxxxxx  or even xxxxx.

My Thanks in advance.

Regards

Terry"

I received the following reply from the percipient I will identify as “JS”: I have also not “cleaned-up” the email unless I have done so to break up lengthy chunks of text.

"hi,sorry about the delay but some unknown person keeps deleting certain photos from my computer, the photo marked A (see photos –THS) is where my wife first noticed them, he was bending up and down checking something very slowly, he knew we where there but it did not bother him, the bad drawing is what we saw when we walked up the hill close to him , i saw only one but my wife is adamant that there was two. he was about two yards behind the flag , the flag is six feet from the grass. hope this helps you, when we took the photos a black helicopter arrived and circled us, it took photos of us as it hovered above very close then flew off in the direction it arrived from, i have tried complaining about it to the aviation authorities but to no avail, it had no markings with rear tinted windows, the pilot was visible".

   I then responded:

"Hi,____.

Thanks for the photographs, they make a good reference.

I wondered whether you could make a more detailed sketch or give a fuller description so that I could put a sketch together then see if it’s like the entity you saw?

Was this the earlier sighting because I cannot find a link on UFO Forum?

The one where you were walking the dogs was just you by yourself?

It would be interesting to get as much detail on both the sightings and see if, once the sketch has been added, what you saw matches up with other cases.

Sadly, any complaint about black helicopters tends to go unanswered!

Regards

Terry"

The response came quickly -with the above email there was a Diary of Events that I shall come to further on but it was quite clear from the brief exchange that JS had much more to tell and I knew it might be difficult to get more information since it was obvious his contact with Ufologists had not been good:

---: "if you take richard obrien (the actor –THS) put him in a long leather look coat that steaches (sic “reaches” –THS) to his ankles, then make him a shadow with a lighter greyish area for a face, then streach him out to about 9 feet and you have the alien".

The whole point of any investigation is that you remain "in neutral" while trying to sympathize with the percipient in such a case.  Some might look at the emails and think "That guy is a weirdo", however, his Diary of Events explains why he wrote in this way and confirmed my suspicions.

When I came across JS’s account I asked some Scottish Ufologists and groups whether they could contact him as there were things in his account that I felt pointed to something serious –particularly the physiological symptoms. Not one single person or group was interested. There was even one dismissive “There is only one genuine A70 UFO abduction” reply and that despite it being made quite clear that JS wanted to speak to investigators.

Since my original email exchange with JS I have tried to contact him but with no success and it may well be, though I hope not, that he has passed away. Note that I do not believe in chopping up or re-phrasing a witness/percipient statement and this is from JS’s computer diary and the only thing that I have done is to break up a couple of very long paragraphs to make reading easier. Where necessary I have clarified something written by JS.

"This is my diary of events and what I have found so far. Our abduction. The date was 01/08/07 on the A70

"we left to go and collect samples of sand from a quarry sixteen miles from our work ,it was a nice sunny day and we where both relaxed and very normal, we left at one fifteen pm and arrived at the quarry at twenty five to two, it is a straight road with very little traffic and no traffic lights ect as it is in the country, we left at quarter to two but did not arrive back at the work until four fifteen, there is a small section of road that I cannot remember driving about four hundred meters, before reaching this section I was behind a blue corsa and a red transit van ,for some reason I cannot remember where the car and van went as they where not in front of me at the end of the four hundred meters there is no turn off so they should have been in front of me all the way along the road, after this section my brother was acting weird singing let it be  (The Beatles song –THS) over and over and also in-between the repetitive song saying things like I cant feel my hand or I need to go home or get me home or I cant feel my legs all the time getting more panic stricken then started screaming for me to stop the truck as he had to get out ,this I did at the first space I reached, he got out and started walking around in a circle still repeating the song and saying I need to get home he was very grey ,what I thought of him at the time reminded me of Dustin Hoffman when he played the part in the rain man he was talking very fast in-between singing the two words of the song over and over, I got him back into the truck and speeded back to work thinking he was having a fit I was doing eighty and was back in no time, it was then that I found out it was four fifteen and we had taken three hours to do a trip that at the most should have been one hour ,we did not stop except at the quarry have repeated the trip several times and it has taken forty five minutes, I got my brother into our car did not waste time telling anyone as I had to get him home.

"we got the doctor in and he told us he has had a panic attack and would be ok in a short while ,he was wrong as my brother ended up in hospital the only thing they could find was he had very low oxygen levels in his blood and a very fast heart beat, I at this time was fine every thing seemed normal ,when I got home I started feeling funny the next thing I know its sixteen hours later my wife just thought I was tired and left me sleeping ,I normally only sleep about three to four hours so this was very abnormal for me ,it was not until the next day it dawned on me we had lost two hours time on that four hundred meter stretch of road my brother cant remember anything before he started singing except the car and van we where behind but cannot remember where they went we both have a total blank about the two hours.

"seen blue orbs of light and white orbs being chased by the RAF and have seen above the A70 what I called a sausage link it was two orange tube shaped objects that looked joined loosely together very height up well above the flight paths and very large.

"we are suffering problems ,my brother told me tonight he is having problems with his left and right and is getting things all mixed up ,he also has a bad headache that wont shift and seems very jumpy ,the only problem I am having is my teeth, I have an abscess at the wisdom tooth and two front teeth have gone grey to black from white and very painful but not toothache this happened in the last 12 hours this may not have anything to do with the missing two hours, I have found a needle mark on my right arm but nothing else ,I also keep wanting to return to the A70 its getting compulsive but maybe that’s me searching for what happened this I do not know but we both are finding it very scary and very annoying to the point of anger .you don’t expect such things at my age 50 but now I need to find an answer for the missing 2 hours some sort of proof as to what happened enough to put our minds at rest.

"One other thing, my brother has not slept since it happened and complains of being sore across his back and sholders, this may be due to lack of sleep but he seems to have had the rough end of the stick

“I don’t know if this has any connection but near my work there is an old airbase that I have nosed about in ,it is well spread along the A70 with deep bunkers in the woods ect and I took to gathering info about it as a hobby, I found one that seems to be still in use but did not go into that one ,it belongs to the USAF 6910th also known as shadow warriors and as far as I have found out was disbanded after the cold war, the airbase was known as RAF Kirk Newton but was solely American and very top secret.

"the area around the A70 belongs mostly to the MOD and is still used on a regular basis I have also come across three abductions on the A70 one a forestry worker who seems to have died from illness by his abduction the other two went public and suffered ridicule but from what I have read is that theirs was very similar to ours and they where also driving before and after their experience

"Health update, I have lost most of my teeth and have had to take my third course of antibiotics, I did not have this problem before whatever it was happened to us but in such a short space of time I have had teeth totally die ,I only have gums at either side of my mouth and have become prone to abscesses ,all my joints are sore constantly and my brother is finding it hard to get about because of joint pain and always being lethargic, we have not spoken about this to each other for a while but yesterday he was telling me he is getting flash backs and weird dreams

"Update, still no closer to knowing what happened or why. my health has improved and I feel great but the same cannot be said about my brother, he keeps getting weird dreams and is positive someone is entering his home at night when all are asleep when he feels someone has visited he states that the next day the whole family find it hard to awaken and feel sluggish all day and very lethargic, the dreams are always the same theme ,he meets up with someone in the dark who takes him to a cliff edge or wall of a cavern they descend on a lift that has large steel girders around it ,it goes very deep into the earth, he is then taken (not by any force) to a doorway that he is told is part of a crashed space ship he is told that he has to open the door with his mind this he does and enters with his companion ,inside is massive with lots of people in white suits and also lots of armed military ,he then enters another lift that seems to go down into the ship, here he is met by someone else who walks him around to the back of the lift to a door again is opened by thought ,when the door opens there is a white tunnel that the military charge into firing their weapons ,he can see the end of the tunnel witch is quite short and sees aliens firing back at the military ,he feels although this is all underground the doorway leads to another world not on earth he is then returned back to the cliff and awakens feeling ill. This dream has repeated over and over never seems to change

"The area we have been working at is a small farm my sister has just bought and we are only sorting it out for her, this I now find is the scean of the a70 abduction of two men, we also have found an area of trees that have been severely damaged, there is no access rout into the damaged area, it is dense forest all around this area.

"Entered area of damage only managed to get to the outer edge took some photos.

"Have entered the damaged area, filmed it but both cameras have stopped working, managed to get something, the area is covered with a white dust like substance and the broken wood looks bleached like you would find on a beach.

"Just had a filling fall out of the last tooth on the side, has three different colored wires attached to it, did not have a filling on that tooth? Tried filming the filling it wont go into focus, the wires seem to be plastic coated with a carbon core, both been feeling very ill nausea and sickness.

"When we where filming the damaged area the forestry department watched us and the following day cleared the area, striped clean also quite a few military trucks in the area .

"Followed a trail of info that has led me to an area the other side of Livingston, found two well secured areas, and filmed it. Have been getting followed by black range rovers with tinted windows they turned up at this location as well. No company name or logo on both areas but have found the old sign that belonged to the construction company.

"The construction company is deep underground mining specialists.

"Not much happened in the following months until just recently and this is my notes on that incident.

“met my first ET last night really weird experience, my wife and I took the dogs for a walk at midnight on the braid hills golf course now after following a path to the summit of one of the hills the path then flows downhill into a valley , this is when I noticed what I call the cellophane ufo’s as you do not see it all you see is a large sheet of cellophane paper rippling in the wind above you, now normally when I come across them they are small or look small about four square yards but in this case it seemed at least fifty square yards then it was gone .

"We continued our walk along the valley then across the green to the return path that is at the other side off the hill , at this time I was looking up trying to see any other UFO and my wife had wandered about thirty yards in front of me when I saw her watching something on a green half way up the hill, when I arrived beside her she told me someone was watching us and pointed to the area and at first I never saw anything then a man came into view then seemed to bend over to do something now he was about fifty to one hundred yards from us so I assumed he was doing the same as us walking a dog so we continued our walk still watching his movements as it was midnight in the middle of nowhere so better safe than sorry.

"As we followed the return path it took us up towards the green where we could still see what we took to be a man moving around on the green so even though it was quite light I switched on my torch and highlighted my dogs one is a longhaired German shepherd and the other is a cross ridgeback come great Dane both big dogs then turned my torch off again and continued up the hill to the return downhill path to the car park this took us to about fifteen yards from the man who at this time had turned and moved about two yards in our direction then stopped .

"I now could see him very clearly his height was the first thing we noticed as he must have been over seven feet tall very thin dressed all in black now it was then that I noticed my wife kept referring to him as them but as I could only see one I did not mention this at the time anyway we continued walking up to the green then we reached the downhill stretch of the path we must have been about ten yards from him so we stopped and looked at him and he just continued to stand still and look at us this is when we could see he was a lot taller than seven feet he was big but very thin he then moved over about two yards then stopped and we just continued our walk down to the car and it was not until I started it and put on my lights ready to leave that the whole episode became clear and we started discussing the event, my wife was adamant that their was two people both very tall even though I only remember seeing one both dressed in black , the other strange fact is we cannot remember seeing a face only a tall black human shape arms legs ect I noticed a belt with what looked like silver buttons on it apart from that we cannot remember any other detail on the person.

“the other strange fact is that the dogs did not seem to notice him and where very calm and just wandering about as usual and that is very unusual for them as they normally stick close when nearing someone and get defensive, my wife and myself felt no threat at all or any fear and that is very unusual for my wife as she spooks very easily. even though I had my camera with me I had no inclination to take a photo yet this would have been the first move I would make I also noticed we had no missing time and if we did it would only be about fifteen minutes . The whole thing was really very weird.

"Went back last night hoping to see ET took the same route with my camera in my hand ready but nothing happened so headed for the green where we saw the figure and had a midnight picnic lol. Measured the flag pole that was in front of the figure it was six foot exactly and as we could see it was only reaching chest height on the figure would give an estimated height of eight foot .watched a ufo come in ,it started like a star moving across the sky then stopped and seemed to fall into our atmosphere getting really bright and trebled in size then stopped ,it was there about two minutes then the light moved across the sky and disappeared from sight , waited until dawn then left for home going back tonight .

"My wife is adamant that there was more than one .She referred to them as two from the moment she first noticed him and brought him to my attention and all the way up the path she again used the term them at least three times, now she is very articulate in her speech as most lawyers are so she must have been seeing two persons and according to her both looked the same all in black but on the other hand I am adamant I only saw one.

"I received an email from someone named Terry Hooper asking for photos of the area this happened at and full details but because of illness I only managed to deal with it today, so I had my daughter drive me up to the area and I showed her where it all happened so she could take photos for me as I am the worlds worst with a camera, anyway it took only five minutes to take the photos I needed then I returned to the small car park and we put the camera away in the boot , that’s when a large grey black colored helicopter flew over the hill to the car park , it circled us very slowly traveling at about fifty yard diameter and about forty feet high, it did this twice then hovered side on to us as we got into the car to drive off then it flew off fast in the direction it came from , then as we left the car park a black range rover with heavy black tinted windows followed us home even though I took detours away from the main roads , it seems I have attracted someone’s attention lol. The helicopter had no markings or numbers on it and I could see it very clearly, the rear window seemed tinted but I could see the pilot who was not in any uniform also I could see the door handles as it was that close. Have made complaints to the aviation authority but nothing is being done about it strange?

"That is it for now, I have excluded a few parts such as my involvement with a Mr. Mankins who was head of research and development for NASA or so I was told lol seems he is the top man, and I blame them for my sudden fall from good health as I turned them down at my meeting with him at nasa he Washington dc and opted to work with a Swiss banker that they asked us not to do lol nasty people lol

“had my first stroke a week later."

This could be psychological –perhaps caused by a condition that led up to his stroke.  However, if his wife and brother confirmed the details given and we could get confirmation of the physiological effects, perhaps doctors’ notes or opinions then this would give it a whole new perspective.

How could a medical condition affecting him cause his wife to see the entities when they were out walking their dogs?  I think that the helicopter low flight could just be coincidental –ditto some of the other incidents that he noted: computers have a nasty habit of ‘losing’ files and photographs. The “other” A70 UFO abduction incident refers to the 1992 case involving Garry Wood and Colin Wright.

Which brings us to some of the other points raised in JS’s Diary of Events: the missing time episode for one and if his brother obviously suffered some severe psychological shock that required a doctor being called out then this could have been easily ascertained by Ufologists during an investigation.  It would also have been easy to acquire a medical note from the doctor covering the matter.

It would have also been possible to get a statement from JS’s wife as she was said to have been the first to spot the entities –and insisted there were two rather than just the one he saw. Also if confirmation of JS’s physiological symptoms could have been gained then it might also have yielded a great deal of information –radiation can cause major tooth decay problems.

We may well have lost a significant case.

Frankfurt, 1960 -The Kaufmann Case

In the spring of 1960, at around 20:30 hours, Klaus-Dieter Kaufmann, then 14 years old, was on his way home after a trip to the cinema; he lived at that time on the western outskirts of Frankfurt. Arriving at a point between the Ackermann-School and the athletic field near the Friedrich Ebert-Settlement, he suddenly noticed a Saturn-shaped "star" in the sky next to the moon. This ‘star’ was about one third of the apparent Moon size and, through the view-finder of his box camera, which contained no film, he first looked at the moon and then at the Saturn-like object. The ring, or disc, was subdivided into several rings. The device glistened like "iridescent metal" and seemed to be hovering above the area between the freight yard and the River Main.

While he was standing there looking at the sky, a whitish mist began to form behind the high wire fence to his right and then began to emit strongly focussed beams of light: one was directed at him. The glare was so strong that he could not even protect his eyes with his hands and he then lost consciousness.

When Kaufmann woke up he found that both the light and the mist had vanished and several entities were seen in the distance. He recovered his camera and noticed that the Saturn-shaped object in the sky had remained in its original position but the Moon had made a "jump to one side".

Above: a 1993 drawing by Kaufmann of the Saturn-shaped UFO he saw

However, feeling unwell he just wanted to get back home; looking at his watch it showed 20:30 hours. On arriving home he found that his parents had not yet returned and that his brothers and sisters were already in bed asleep.  He then turned on the radio and heard the Midnight news. If that was not enough of a shock when he looked out of the window he saw the Saturn-shaped object emitting a short white beam of light which moved up and down. Suddenly the objects colour changed to a dark orange; becoming darker and darker until it vanished completely.

For three days Kaufmann suffered from a severe headache and an inability to concentrate and there was a sore spot on his spine near the pelvis with what looked to be a puncture wound. Eventually, Kaufmann forgot his sighting and his fainting spell, but the wound on his back continued to hurt from time to time.

In 1990 an operation had to be performed on Kaufmann’s spine at the hospital in Offenbach. For reasons he failed to understand the physician assumed this to be the second operation and asked Kaufmann about the date of the first operation. Although Kaufmann replied that there had been no previous surgical treatment, the X-rays clearly showed an operation channel at the point in question. This made Kaufmann try to recall once again when the pain in his back had first occurred: his memory of events 30 years before gradually began to return.

He recalled that the light which had come out of the mist and blinded him had not immediately caused him to faint but had put him into a trance-like state.  Then several small, stocky individuals about 1.50 m tall, wearing close-fitting ‘diving suits’ and carrying silver-coloured boxes on their chest and back, had stepped out of the mist. Their feet and necks were relatively long; the heads were small and bald and the backs of their heads merged with their necks. Chin, nose, and mouth were not strongly developed but they had prominent eyes and muscular arms and thighs. Their feet resembled flippers and seemed to have only two large toes. Some of the entities were females –noted as they possessed large breasts- but they, too, were bald. The entities walked fast and purposefully but with a jerky-gait and they carried their arms at an angle like soldiers.

While he was still blinded Kaufmann had felt a touch and sensed that one of the entities had asked him to come closer: he felt that he did this but of his own free will. He felt great affection for this particular entity and as a wire fence separated them he decided to try to climb over it.  He thought he heard the suggestion that he should come down and stand next to the fence; this he did and felt that he was lifted up - or was he able to float.  Up in the air a glowing sphere, covered with a net-like structure, kept growing larger as it approached him –he did not notice a ring around the sphere.

Above: drawn by K. D. Kaufmann in 1993 of entity type that abducted him inn the spring of 1961

One might ask if this encounter was genuine and just how much of the decision to get closer to the entity was down to his free will as there is the possibility of manipulation in these cases.

Recovering his eyesight, Kaufmann then remembers having been in a domed room immersed in bright, yellowish light; the dome itself was a faint yellow colour. He was in a sort of dentist's chair and in front of him was a large, round entrance leading out into the open. Lined up along the wall in front of him, with their backs towards him, were several greyish-green entities. They were gripping handles on the wall and performed pumping up and down movements.

Some of the entities filled him with fear but he either cannot or will not remember what these individuals looked like. Close in front of him was an entity that looked at him –it had over-sized eyes with white eyeballs and small, dark pupils. This entity reached into his mouth with thin, leathery, webbed fingers and seemed to try to pull out his teeth. Kaufmann felt nauseous. Another one of the entities loosened his trouser belt and tried to remove his pants.

The entities talked to each other and Kaufmann thought that he could clearly distinguish male and female voices.  He believed they talked about "killing it” and was on the verge of tears and terribly afraid when he noticed a small, grey entity among the others with a huge, bald head with enormous, almond-shaped brown-black shining eyes, wrinkled skin and a small, narrow mouth but no nose or ears. In contrast to the other entities it seemed to be “kindly disposed” towards him and appeared to be curious rather than aggressive. It indicated to him that he would be allowed to return home.

The percipient once again felt that he floated through the air and was set down next to the fence. To him it seemed that he was being carried as he heard heavy breathing behind him –“as if someone were using a snorkel" and reaching back he felt a belt around a waist. Some force pushed his hand back and he then passed out. His next recollection was waking, looking at his watch and going home.

Above: Drawing by Kaufmann of a typical entity type seen during the abduction.

This is an interesting report and I have been unable to ascertain whether a doctor confirmed that there seemed to be evidence of a back operation of some kind having been performed. With no secondary witness –not even to confirm his arriving home very late it is a case worth noting but all rests on the statement by the alleged percipient.

Above: drawing by K. D. Kaufmann of the entity that examined him: one of the 4 fingers was used as a thumb. Webbing was seen between the fingers.

The UFO “Borderline” –The Case of the Imjarvi Skiers

At around 16:45 hours on the 7th January, 1970, an incident is said to have taken place at Imjarvi (near Heinola), Finland. I have had a small obsession with this report because of a number of fascinating aspects. I would like to thank Anders Liljegren of the AFU (Archives For the Unexplained) who has been very helpful on this and other matters.

On that day in 1970, forester Aarno Heinonen (36) and farmer Esko Viljo (38), both of whom were keen amateur athletes were out skiing and had halted in a small glade while descending a small hill to enjoy the few stars visible in the cold sunset.  After a short time they heard a buzzing noise and saw a bright light moving through the sky towards them.  What happened next took this from being a standard lights-in-the-sky (lits) report.

As the bright light neared them it was just above tree top height and they saw a red-grey mist swirling around it and puffs of smoke emanating from it (shades of Sonny Desvergers).  Inside this cloud was a circular, saucer-shaped object that was metallic in appearance and some nine feet (2.74 m) wide.  This object had a dome above and, beneath it, were three spheres around the rim, reminiscent of the Adamski flying saucer photographs.  From the base of the object a tube suddenly shot out a sharp beam of light down towards the ground.  The object had now descended to around 10 feet (3m) from the ground and was almost within touching distance of the men.

Heinonen stated that; “I was standing completely still.  Suddenly I felt as if somebody has seized my waist from behind and pulled me backwards.  I think I took a step backwards, and in the same second I caught sight of the creature.  It was standing in the middle of the light beam with a black box in its hands.  From around the opening in the box there came a yellow light, pulsating.  The creature was about 35 inches (90 cm) tall, with very thin arms and legs.  Its face was pale like wax.  I didn’t notice the eyes, but the nose was very strange.  It was a hook rather than a nose.  The ears were very small and narrow towards the head.  The creature wore some kind of overall in a light green material.  On its feet were boots of a darker green colour, which stretched above the knee.  There were also white gauntlets going up to the elbows, and the fingers were bent like claws around the black box.”

This was definitely not going to be just another UFO sighting.

Viljo described the entity as “luminous like phosphorus” and wearing a conical, metallic-like helmet and that it was less than three feet (91 cm) tall. As the two men stood and stared at the entity it turned a little toward Heinonen and pointed the box and pulsing, blinding light toward him.  While the entity stood in the light beam a thick red-grey mist descended from the object and big sparks came from the illuminated circle above the snow.  The sparks were estimated to be around 10 cms in length and were red, green and purple in colour. These sparks were slowly floating out in long curves and when they hit the men neither felt anything. The mist became so thick that the men could not see each other and eventually was so thick that they could not see the entity or object –up to this point they believe that 15-20 seconds had elapsed.

Viljo stated that; “Suddenly the circle above the snow decreased, the light-beam floated upwards like a trembling flame and went into the tube on the object. Then it was as if the mist was ‘thrown apart’, and above us the air was empty.” It seems that the men stood without saying anything for a couple of minutes.

Heinonen was paralyzed on his right side and Viljo had to almost carry his friend the two miles (3 km) back to their home. Heinonen had pain in his back and limbs and headache.  After a while he vomited and when he urinated it was “black like coffee” and this continued for a couple of months.  We know that at 20:00 hrs that evening he saw Dr Pauli Kajanoja at the Heinola clinic both men were examined and the doctor could only prescribe sleeping pills and sedatives as he believed that the symptoms of aching joints and headache would disappear within ten days (which seems a very specific time frame but he did believe that Heinonen’s very low blood pressure indicated shock) but for Heinonen they continued for a lot longer.

As a point of fact five months later he was still suffering from the same pains and although the paralysis of his right leg disappeared he could still not balance properly.  His memory was also severely affected and it got so bad that whenever he left home he had to tell his family where he was going so that they could search for him and collect him if he didn’t return. Viljo himself was not unaffected by the event; he had a red and swollen face and had become incoherent and absent-minded.

This sounds unpleasant not just for the men but also their families considering their previous good health; and it was noted that Heinonen reported black or dark coloured urine for some time which is usually and indicator of blood being present..  Dr Pauli Kajanoja stated that “The symptoms he (Heinonen) described are like those after being exposed to radioactivity. Both men seem sincere; I don’t think they had made the thing up.  I am sure they were in a state of shock when they came to me; something must have frightened them.”

Had there been one percipient then the natural answer to this encounter would be that the person involved had entered into an altered state. However, things are never that easy in these cases.

There seems to be coincidental confirmation of something unusual having been going on at the time of the encounter when two other people reported UFOs in the sky at the same time and in the same area as the Imjärvi encounter.

We have a very brief, odd, CE3K but it had not been the last incident according to Heinonen as between the time of the encounter and August 1972 he reported some 23 other UFO contacts including occasionally meeting with an extremely beautiful space woman. Not just that but one entity very reminiscent of the Adamski ‘Venusian’ had progressed considerably beyond the use of mere telepathy (as per Adamski) and was able to speak fluent Finnish and that is no easy feat.

It was these later claims tended to create an atmosphere of disbelief even amongst many hardened Ufologists. We can delve into the alternative dimensions theory or even that of UFOs and fairy-lore (since the entity did look somewhat like a character from that) but I think that the problem here is the failure of Ufologists to understand what could be going on.  One farmer, Matti Haapaniemi, a neighbour, stated; “Many people in this neighbourhood have laughed at this story.  But I don’t think it’s anything to joke about.  I have known both Aarno and Esko since they were little boys.  Both are quiet, rational fellows and moreover they are abstainers.  I am sure their story is true.”

Rather than simply dismiss what percipients report took place after their encounters I threw out my own hard-nosed approach to these cases. By the early 1980s it was quite clear that physiological and psychological symptoms being quite clearly reported were being dismissed as “kooky” or “weird claims” because Ufologists ten to be very limited in their reading material –some who cite some conditions as possible catalysts for cases such as hypnagogic or hypnopompic do so and yet other cases they deal with are quite clearly such but are labelled as genuine events.

Hypnagogic hallucinations are imagined sensations that seem very real and they occur as a person is falling asleep and are also referred to as sleep hallucinations. The term hypnopompic describes the period when a person wakes up –waking dreams. And this is why more psychologists need to be involved in these cases because this is a very complicated situation as a paper in the Schizophrenia Bulletin (September, 2016: 42(5): 1098–1109) titled “What Is the Link Between Hallucinations, Dreams, and Hypnagogic–Hypnopompic Experiences?” By Flavie Waters, Jan Dirk Blom, Thien Thanh Dang-Vu, Allan J. Cheyne, Ben Alderson-Day, Peter Woodruff and Daniel Collerton states:

“By definition, hallucinations occur only in the full waking state. Yet

similarities to sleep-related experiences such as hypnagogic and hypnopompic

hallucinations, dreams and parasomnias, have been noted since antiquity. These

observations have prompted researchers to suggest a common aetiology for these

phenomena based on the neurobiology of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

With our recent understanding of hallucinations in different population groups

and at the neurobiological, cognitive and interpersonal levels, it is now possible

to draw comparisons between the 2 sets of experiences as never before.”

Two people are not going to suffer the same hallucination so that explanation does not work although I noted a conversation once in which two Ufologists suggested that the Imjarvii encounter was a “shared hallucination”. I think that they were referring to Folie à deux -'madness for two'- which is also known as shared psychosis or shared delusional disorder (SDD). This is a psychiatric syndrome in which symptoms of a delusional belief, and sometimes hallucinations, are transmitted from one individual to another.  Heinonen and Vilja do not seem to fall into this category of case, however.

We also have to deal with the memory loss and absent mindedness note along with other possible psychological aspects.  There is transient global amnesia is a sudden, temporary episode of memory loss that can't be attributed to a more common neurological condition (epilepsy or stroke). During an episode of transient global amnesia the person’s recall of recent events simply vanishes and they cannot remember where they are or how they got there.

Having read some of what Heinonen later reported and the situations around those claimed meetings I believe this was “all in the mind”.  But here we come back to what is obviously the actual cause of the sudden change in Heinonen and Viljo: the UFO encounter itself. I noted similarities to the Desvergers case (see last chapter) but the “smoke”/ “mist” and all the other aspects can be found in a number of other reports on record.  And I think that more concentration needs to be put into the encounter itself rather than the later claims.

The entity is described in a certain way and we have the percipient approved sketch –it is signed by both men as are some of the other illustrations made at the time. There are similarities with other cases but the problem is that each artist will interpret details in their own way so there can never be an exact match but entities carrying boxes, spheres and even rods are on record. The outfit described matches others and it could be that the “hat” also matches but witnesses remember it shorter or saw it from another angle.  Thing here is sending up a red flag.

Above (percipient approved) sketch showing how the Imjarvi object was first observed and its course change and then the cloud/mist appearing as it got closer.

Then there is the confirmation of UFO activity that day independent of the men. At the same time as the skiers observed their UFO Elna Siitari, a farmer’s wife was heading for the cowshed in Paistjarvii a village located some 15 km from Imjarvi. Siitari looked up to see a strange bright light moving toward Imjarvi.  At the same time in the village of Paaso which is 10 kms north of Imjarvi a man observed a light phenomenon at 16:45 hrs. This seems to indicate that the men probably did see the  same object but up close.

Interesting is the fact that a year before Matti Kontulainen (16) and from Imjarvi observed an object approximately 100 m from the glade where the skiers had their encounter:

“It was about 11:00 p.m. in the evening. It was in February, and no stars were visible.  I came skiing through the forest after having been to a friend’s. I was on my way home. It was dark, but suddenly the forest was lit up by a very bright light going above the tree-tops. It was like a gigantic welding-flame. It disappeared very fast…” there is the possibility that Kontulainen saw a meteorite but there is not much to go on.

We have entity and object details from the main encounter and even a step-by-step illustrated guide to the sighting. That the object was seen to make a dramatic turn and head directly toward the two men cannot be seen as coincidence.  No “Oh, we always pop down here for a quick fuel check –we never expected people to be here!” It seemed quite deliberate and what happened when the object got closer also seems to have been deliberate but we have to consider this an “opportunistic” event since the entity/entities could not have known that the men would stop at that spot. The farmer’s wife at Paistjarvii was in a village so an object descending there might be seen and the same applies to the witness at Paaso.

The entity appeared and points the box device at Heinonen who feels himself “pulled back” but then the cloud/mist gets dense and the entity and Viljo cannot be seen –Viljo experiences the same.  Suddenly the cloud/mist and object are gone. We know that the incident began at “around 16:45 hrs –we have the farmer’s wife’s report- and that the visit to the doctor was at 20:00 hrs and the men viewed the entity 15-20 seconds then stood motionless for around 3 minutes or so not talking but feeling calm and it then took an (estimated) hour for Viljo to help Heinonen home.  The problem is that there are only two known times in this chronology –start of the encounter and trip to the clinic. No time-checking on watches (if they had any).

Mist engulfing the duo then -“suddenly”- it was going back up into the object then the object was gone.  There is a great deal here to suggest that there was missing time because there are indicators that this was more than just an illogical CE3K incident. What happened during the incident we will never know and GICOFF and its team did the best they could but the idea of missing time back in 1970 was almost science fiction to Ufologists – I tried repeatedly to introduce “Time Lapse” back in the late 1970s and early 1980s and no one was interested. Unless the witnesses reported a UFO, an entity or entities and recalled something that indicated a “Hills scenario” as some called it then it was just a landing case. It must have struck those involved that there was something wrong.  However, the two men with their memory and other problems would not have been good candidates for regression hypnosis, though it might have helped them in some way.

Above: Heinonen (left) and Viljo return to the encounter site

I asked Liljegren if anything new had been going on with the report since the AFU newsletter updates in 1980. He told me: “I believe I asked Lasse Ahonen when he was here about the current status but I got the impression no follow-up had been done in more recent years (after what we wrote up in our newsletters). I would doubt that any of the two (Aarno and Esko) are still alive. There is also the problem of the language barrier to Finland. We do have a big file (a standard file folder) crammed with materials on the case but some of it is inaccessible to us "normal" Swedes. We inherited the file from GICOFF (the Gothenburg group) that investigated (which also my Finnish colleague Jorma Heinonen - not a relative of Aarno) tried to do through letter-writing.”

The encounter was fifty years ago so if the men were in their 30s back then and still alive today they would be in their late 80s. Considering their health and other problems it seems unlikely both are still alive and even if they were I doubt that they could add or make sense to what we know about the 1970 event.

It is somewhat sad that we have no idea about the two men after 1980 –it may all be in those GICOFF files. UFOs encounters can be classed as “bizarre” or “borderline reality” but so often it is forgotten that the people in these cases are human beings and need any support they can get and, sadly, Ufology cannot offer that.

A Few Thoughts

Barney and Betty Hill were an American couple who claimed they were abducted by extra-terrestrials in a rural portion of the state of New Hampshire from 19th to 20th September, 1961.

That was 61 years ago.

Travis Walton was the percipient alleged alien abduction UFO on 5th November, 1975.

That was 47 years ago.

This is, as far as most Ufologist and especially the UFO celebrity bunko men are concerned is it. Some may  pass over the Antonio Villas Boas case quickly; they tend mainly to concentrate on the United States as that sells well to American viewers and media. Also these two cases have so much information that it is easy for them to work out a power point presentation of the bare facts.

The Pascagoula Incident in which Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker claimed they were abducted by aliens while fishing near Pascagoula, Mississippi, took place on the 11th October, 1973.

That was 49 years ago.

Hickson and Parker, the Hills and Walton are mentioned ad nauseum though the Pascagoula case tends to be less mentioned.

Why does the Liberty, Kentucky abduction of three women that, as in the Hills case, have independent corroboration of sorts (no one saw the actual abduction) never get mentioned? There are other cases of course but the same old same old UFO "celebrities" you see on TV do not carry out research; their main aim is to earn money and get recognised.

Looking at Bigfoot research there is similar.  In 1967 Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin allegedly filmed a Bigfoot -nicknamed "Patty". Since that time people have lied about the incident and added details to the account and even faked evidence and created false analyses to prove it genuine. Also people have lied about the incident and added details to the account and even faked evidence and created false analyses to prove it fake. Over 50 years back and forth on the same story and piece of footage and...nothing. It has distracted from other reports.

If after four or five or even six decades the debunkers have not sent the "Classic" UFO cases down in flames they never will. We saw how Ted Bloecher and his companions gathered CE3K/AE reports and how the Lorenzens pushed the use of hypnosis and scopolamine (the "truth drug") to get passed the blocked memories of UFO percipients. At this point there were danger signs and who, having had a suspected abduction experience or who witnessed a UFO landing was going to rush forward to be pumped full of truth drug and be put under hypnosis? Even in 2022 there is a fear of hypnosis and many aspects of it based on TV shows, films and other entertainment -a fear that those involved might probe into more private memories.

Looking at the United States there were many landing incidents that were ignored by Ufologists. Reports in which the descriptions of entities match those in other cases from around the world. There were no investigations and the only records we have of these events are press clippings -twisted and added to for decades by people with something to sell. Kathy Reeves and the Reeves Farm events were never investigated and all sorts of excuses offered as to why they were not looked into.

Long time readers here (or anyone who purchased a copy of the publication) know the case that I am going to mention here; Euporia, Mississippi, 1973. Multiple witnesses plus witness(es) in a second vehicle, observed two UFOs. One hovered in the air while the other landed on the interstate and an entity briefly exited then re-entered the object and both UFOs flew off. Think about how important this case sounds. Multiple witnesses and all known by name. No investigation and no appeals put out through a very cooperative radio station.

The main witnesses were all black.

Ted Bloecher asked the local investigators to follow the report up quickly and they promised to but never did. In fact all they did was try to jump in on cases involving white percipients. There is one simple reason why the cases (there were incidents involving black people at the same time and in the same area/state) were not looked into. Racism. Barney Hill is the most famous percipient and had he been by himself the fact that he was black would have meant it would have been an obscure and hardly mentioned case today.  Rev. Harrison Bailey is rarely mentioned though he pops up occasionally in Ufology and I dedicated a chapter to his case in Beyond UFO Contact.

Then, of course, we had Budd Hopkins jump in and, honestly, I supported his work as was regularly updated on it. Then things fell apart and when John Mack joined in it seemed that the work might get some respectability and correct use of hypnosis where needed. Sadly, Mack died and the two men in Ufology who controlled the narrative and who were the trendy stars of the time with everyone including MUFON pimping them as much as possible were Hopkins and Jacobs and Carpenter who never achieved the Golden Boy stardom. Hopkins and Mack destroyed the serious investigation and research into CE3K/AE reports because they claimed that there was no such thing; all incidents were abductions that only they could handle and get to the bottom of. Science fantasy took over. If someone had gone through a standard CE3K or possible abduction it did not remain so for long. As Jacobs yells like an evangelical priest now "You never just saw a UFO -YOU WERE ABDUCTED!"

Ufology likes its trends and if they make money and bring in new members then the trend will be pushed until the subject is exhausted and no more money is pouring in. In the early days of digital cameras "Rods" were a big thing though they all turned out to be insects or other regular things. "Orbs" were another product of early digital cameras and even in 2022 buts of dust and insects captured recorded are hauled as "spirit energy" or "mini UFO probes" by people who know full well what they have recorded. The whole "Grey" story and the generational abductions schtick was a buck earner.  Now American Ufology is controlled by (once again) the U.S. intelligence community and "UAP" are the new thing.

I need to make it clear that I do not claim all "Grey" UFO abductions are psychological or altered state events. The Hills are, today, described as having been abducted by "Greys" -they were not. That is current Ufology rebooting its own history to try and create a false and sellable narrative. Looking at human history it can be proven that Jacobs claims (and he is an historian) are complete bunk. I have seen online UFO pages stating Walton was "abducted by Grey type aliens similar to those in the Betty and Barney Hill case" -the percipient names are factual and everything else is pure fantasy.

People who saw a UFO land and kept an eye on the duration of the sighting by the dashboard clock are told they have missing time when they don't and the abduction 'investigators' twist and turn the narrative until the witness actually believes that they are abductees. Now if you have an intelligent person who observes a UFO landing and entities emerge and then re-enter and the object takes off and then he/she checks the subject out and... not many sane people are going to subject themselves to the abuse of Jacobs and you may well ask why far more female claimed abductees are pushed than male ones? Because they can be used to follow the narrative created by Hopkins and perverted by Jacobs of women being kidnapped and then technologically raped, made pregnant and then have their babies stolen -by aliens.

Male abductees basically get free masturbation sessions. Not as "human interest" as the female abductee.  Also, the conduct of these claimed researchers is unethical in the extreme and focussed on women.

I have had to ask myself many times just how many (alleged) genuine CE3K cases have been reported then perverted into something else via hypnosis? And how many such cases have gone unreported? I was once told by an American Ufologist that MUFON wanted any witness to a UFO landing checked to see if they would be "amenable" to believing they had been abducted and willing to undergo hypnotic regression. I asked what happened if the witness stood by their story and were unwilling to travel and undergo hypnosis? "They are filed away as "unreliable" and their unwillingness to undergo hypnosis proved it. Case closed."

The other factor here is that the main abduction 'researchers' have been shown for what they are and what they do including, in Carpenters case, selling what percipients thought were confidential files with all of their information to Robert Bigelow! The ladies at Liberty were told by Ufologists: "Talk to us or we go to the press" and...the Ufologists still went to the press for "financial reasons".  Look at how Ground Saucer watch and others tried to play Walton; offer him medical assistance for what he had just gone through and when he turns up make demands but there is no medical help.

Alleged (I know writing that keeps annoying people) percipients do not get rich (unless they come up with a series of sensationalist books, movie and get well paid for turning up for TV etc) but everyone makes money from the "latest show freak".

Ufology is not and never has been a science. "I can't explain that due to my limited knowledge therefore it has to be from another dimension!"  Ufology spends more time following a false narrative created by contactees, U.S. intelligence or other Ufologists with books to sell than actual research and that is why those in it follow the words of the Messenger of Deception Vallee -the "teflon Ufologist". Looking at Vallee's catalogue of UFO landings we see it contains reports known as hoaxes and misidentifications back in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s on but that catalogue has never been updated (rather like Flying Saucer Review refused to correct the record). There are many faults in Vallee's work and how he reports on cases in his books (yes, I have them) and yet no one in Ufology will question or point this out because he is Jacques Vallee the Godfather or elder statesman of Ufology ("and a scientist").

Someone who might think "Okay. That was not something from this Earth!" is about to be confronted by things they are not prepared for or, if they have researched what they saw, know about and are not going to fall into that trap.

Here is something that must be considered the absolute unbendable rule in cases of this type whether just an observed landing or possible "abduction"; the witness/percipient is the most important thing. Not a cash cow to slap under hypnosis and get what you can out of them for the next blog post or potential book or even TV interview. It is a double edged sword in many ways since, if it was not for outing people, we would not have known about the Hills or the Liberty threesome. If it was not for the fuss kicked up regarding Walton we might just be reading "a man claimed he went on board a UFO" and that is it. Gathering the information is important but not to the point that the human(s) involved are simply used because they have (allegedly) gone through an experience that totally shattered their world view and way of life and they have to come to terms with that and not be told "Well, you know Betty and Barney Hill...." followed by case details. They need to be reassured that they are not insane. They are probably not the first but there has to be a lot of listening and careful guidance so that, if they really need hypnotherapy due to physiological or psychological problems caused by the event they do not have their minds full of crap.

There is a Ufologist in the UK who at the hint of someone not remembering every second of a sighting/encounter rushes out with a tame hypnotherapist. When I was in communication with him he claimed to have "discovered" over 100 plus UFO abductions each month and "Some times more."

So what does he do with all of these abduction reports? He selects the best and then "re-write the accounts in my words so as to protect the person making the report" -I could sit here and churn out 'genuine' report after report. Quoting, on the internet, the actual persons account as they gave it is NOT going to identify them by name. But this is Ufology and any amount of faking can go on and be accepted as genuine -no peer review just, in my opinion, fakery. "Many thousands of accounts" stored on a computer (allegedly).

Can we really allow many genuine reports just vanish to go uninvestigated? Euporia, the Reeves case and many others will eventually be lost forever when the percipients and observers die. "If only" has no place in research. In 2022 people can be traced and they can be asked about what they saw. Even now MUFON will not even think about looking at the Euporia report which leaves a lot of questions to be asked of an organisation in which a lot of its directors are accused of many things and some even claim "possible" UFO abduction.

In France, Italy, Spain, Australia, Canada -in most countries these once "unacceptable" reports can be looked into before it is too late. Just one or two investigators in areas opening cold cases can achieve a great deal and provide a real data base of cases that can be studied or thrown out.

A bit of a ramble and I know no one bothers commenting so I just put this out there. As each day goes by I can see one report after another being lost.
