Since 1947 it has been claimed that UFOs/flying saucers are evidence of aliens visiting the Earth.  Since the 1950s claims of encounters with landed craft and alien beings were talked about but not taken seriously.

In the 1960s the subject of UFO abduction was a "slow-burner" until the whole "Grey" abduction phenomenon and claims made by researchers such as Budd Hopkins, Prof. John Mack and Dr David Jacobs and Whitley Streiber.

But is there evidence to back up any of the claims -and what about those encountering Alien Entities but who were not abducted?

Are these people all hoaxers, psychotic or suffering from some other mental illness as some claim?

Are those people who were exposed by Ufologists against their wishes, people who wanted to report what happened and then just get back to their everyday lives -thrust into the media glare against their will?

And if US authorities were so interested that in one case at least they broke into the home of two abductees and this was later proven -why?

Why did a hard core of these people never want publicity or to make money from what happened to them?

Above all, why did a major UFO landing incident take place on a US Inbterstate road in front of a large number of observers (all willing to talk to investigators) never get investigated? If it were not for a radio presenter interviewing and taking notes we would know nothing of the case -it would be labelled "insubstantial".

James and Coral Lorensen -the Scopolamine Kids; using a very notorious "truth drug" on alleged UFO witnesses and selling stories to newspapers.  An investigator (a veteran) showing a witness images of "aliens" encountered in other cases before any memories were retrieved.  Worst of all, the constant "pissing competition" and breaches of trust between UFO investigators.

2017 is the time to assess the past evidence and look at the faults within Ufology.

Not everyone is going to be happy -debunkers or ufologists.

Praised by Dr Mark Rodheiger of the Centre for UFO Studies and, below, John Hanson of the Haunted Skies Project and Colonel Charles Halt the officer involved in the Rendlesham incident.

The Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) says that we may have to wait many thousands of years before any signals sent gets a response if they are detected.

The real SETI may already have established the there is alien life –and it has been visiting Earth for at least 70 years.

Once the mass of reports of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and entity encounters are sifted there remains a strong core of cases that defy logical explanation and suggest that these encounters have resulted in physiological effects and post traumatic stress.

Terry Hooper-Scharf of the CE3K/AE Project has led research into these reports for over 40 years and in this work takes a look at rare or obscure reports as well as cataloguing encounters from Germany and Portugal and focuses in on correlations in the reports and how the Dandenong (Kelly Cahill) encounter could be the best case ever reported.

Have the serious investigators and researchers looking into UFOs been unearthing better evidence of extra terrestrial life and contact with humans than established SETI ?

1973 –Year of the “Global UFO Wave”
1973 –The “Year of the Humanoids”
1973 –The year of the Pascagoula alien abduction claim
1973 –Several witnesses observed two Unidentified Flying Objects: one temporarily landed on a US Interstate road while the other hovered close-by. An entity appeared from the landed object. A car driver approaching from the opposite direction stops, turns his/her car and races off. This is classed as a Major Incident in Ufology.
1973 –a driver observes a landed UFO and entities and opens fire with his gun when he felt threatened. A High Strangeness account.
Neither of these cases was investigated despite requests for local investigators to do so. Even in 2020 the idea of opening up either as a cold case was flatly Rejected by America’s ‘top UFO investigation’ group.
Reports now probably lost to history.
1973 –a year in which UFO reports from African-Americans were frowned upon and ignored. Nothing has changed.

We HAVE "Classic" High Strangeness Cases in the UK -Ufologists Just Ignore Them

If I had to look at how badly Ufology in the UK treats CE3K cases then, excluding the books by British "New Ufologists" who have really contributed nothing in almost 40 years, then there are reports such as:
the 1954 Jessie Roestenberg case which is the earliest recorded and credible observation and thanks to John Hanson and the Haunted Skies project we at least have more than was originally knopwn AND we have video footage of Mrs Roestenberg -which should be getting used in UFO documentaries.
Jessie Roestenberg (c)2022 John Hanson/HS Project

Hanson also interviewed the observers of the entity from Bradford, 1955?
There are a good few other reports that were basic book filler then dump the percipients. The Shamrock Cafe (1983) case -another that is basically ignored.
New Ufology decided from the outset that the whole business was to debunk but appear scientific and make various claims for why accounts were not real but psychological. We see cases where other percipients are ignored while one who has a history of possible "waking dreams" is concentrated on as that proves it was not real (yeah, those other percipients did not want to undergo hypnosis out of fear of what it might reveal so stuff them, right?).
The July, 1994 Silbury Hill CE3K has a numkber of elements that would see it tagged as High Strangeness yet what happened to Paul, Sonya and Rob that morning has only been covered to an extent in Andrew Collins' book Light Quest (2012).

Elsie Oakensen (c)2022 John Hanson/Haunted Skies

The 1978 Elsie Oakensen encounter which, although there was only one percipient there was independent back up of UFOs at the same time. Hanson has interviewed Oakensen and it is interesting that, again, the only thing Ufologists could come up with was that it was "a hoax" even though they can produce no evidence of this.
We have High Strangeness cases in the UK that are mainly unknown to people in Ufology in the UK let alone outside of it. This is why these cases have to be recorded and John Hanson has done a great deal to achieve this.
Perhaps it needs an independent documentary company to do a series of short films?

The (ever growing) Hooper Archives

In 50 years you gather a lot of books and files. Regular readers  will be familiar with the above CE3l/AE files (there are other CE3K files below that bottom row!).  Today, rather than goin g back and forth from my room to the "book room" (far too many books) I decided to put up plastic shelving and arrange all the CE3K/AE dedicated books or books with CE3K reports in them,

Here is a side shot.

Top shelf

below: closer look for the nosies!

Below the shelf with the heavy stuff -note the Haunted Skies volumes which I highly recommend
Below the more intense reading
Below the more classic books on the subject

Below the books are the 150 plus files on various phenomena from lake and sea monsters. mystery hominids, The Great New England Darkness, Project Twinkle, Red Spray Events, Thunder Axes, Angel Hair, Falls of Gelatinous substances, alleged UFO crashes, UCOs (Unidentified Crashed Objects), the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and UFOs, Attempted communications with UFOs, Animal Disturbance cases, Military intercept attempts and a whole bunch more

Whoever gets this lot when I pop my clogs has to take the lot as a job lot and guarantee that researchers, if ever interested, will get free access to it all.

They will also need a van to move the lot as my ghost and paranormal as well as cryptozoological books are also thrown in!

July 1965 Milnthorpe Cumbria

source  David Sankey, a BUFORA investigator.

In July 1965, late at night couple and their baby son were making an overnight journey when they pulled over for a cigarette break at a rest area near Milnthorpe, Cumbria.

It was during this break in their journey that the couple noticed behind a nearby dry-stone wall, an intense red light which appeared lens or domed shaped. Within this light were seen three small creatures which seemed to be giving off a slight green luminescence. The entities were described as having large, round staring eyes and a long nose that looked like a "small elephant trunk" with a mouth that appeared as just a slit. Their heads were large and almost a turnip shape and their bodies were round with hands with digits that were not seen clearly. No definite muscle tone or bone structure was seen, and they did not appear to be wearing any clothing.  Two of the three entities had their arms held out in front of them as though gesturing.

visualisation. (c)2022 T. Hooper-Scharf NOT TO BE USED WITHOUT PERMISSION

The entities appeared to be some 15 feet from the car and in front of the wall when the object's brilliance was noticed.  It was reported that the couple became frightened and drove off without seeing the entities depart. They later felt silly for reacting in a frightened manner as they had gotten the impression that the entities had meant no harm.

That, sadly, is it. There was no accompanying illustration of the entities that had been shown to the witnesses and approved and none of the object seen. We do not even know where they stopped; Milnthorpe is a village in hilly country and there is the B5282 road and A5 running around it. If this had happened in France during 1965 it would probably have led to a lengthy report

High Strangeness: The Natal 'Flying Spectre'

At times it can be frustrating in the extreme when looking at old reports where someone did go and talk to witnesses but all that we are left with is a story but lacking the details we need –or want. Is 1972 just too far back to hope that some of the witnesses might still be alive and investigators could track them down?

When it comes to this case I cannot find anything online about it. I even checked in all of my old books and even my article from 1978 on African CE3K reports does not list it. To be fair, however, if I do not know about it why do I think someone else should?  An account was published in Flying Saucer Review (Philipp J. Human, “The ‘Flying Spectre’ of Natal”, vol.18, no. 6, 1972).

The events took place in August 1972 and details were published in The Natal Mercury on 22nd August, 1972.

Mrs. Doris Muthwa was accompanied by her 12 year old daughter as she went to draw water from a river near to her Roosboom (NW of Colenso) home. The time was around 04:30 hrs.  As Doris was going about here chore:

“I looked up and there seemed to be a man in a white suit. I thought he

was smoking a cigarette but then the smoke became like a big fire. There was

a bright light shining from his chest which went pink and blue.”

According to Mrs. N. E. Harding, Doris’ employer:

“Doris said he was about 3.5 metres tall. She indicated his height to me

against a tree. He must have been emitting some kind of electricity because

she said it was just like when she touches the iron and her body goes all jerky.

The giant man then shot into the sky and disappeared.  The two were so

frightened that the mother cried out, while the daughter began to cry and bit

her mother’s hand in her  terror.  They ran away, falling over and spilling their

water as they went. Doris is a bright, intelligent woman. I know she is telling the

      truth.”

According to Philipp Human the height of the ‘man’ based on the tree would be around 11 ft. 3 ins. To 11 ft. 6 ins.  The daughter had bitten her mother’s hand when the ‘man’ “began to give off white lights” and as for Doris; she refused to go back to the stream.

The electrical effect that Doris felt is worthy of note and I hope she replaced her clothes iron if she was getting the same from it. A mother and daughter –a joke being played on them (if we ignore the electrical effect)? Could be, however, that convenient explanation can be dismissed because others saw the “flying spectre”.

In a follow-up report (The Natal Mercury, 23rd August, 1972) it was noted that a Elias Khosa, working at a trading store, was walking home on Wednesday 16th August when he encountered the entity.  According to Elias, the entity “faced him, but he could not see its head, although he noticed small flames burning around its feet.” Elias stated that he invited the “visitor” home for a drink but it simply turned and sped off through the veldt at “high speed” and emitted flames and smoke as it did so. One wonders what might have happened had the entity responded “Okay” to Elias’ invitation?

One the night of Saturday, 19th August, 1972, the entity was seen on wasteland behind the Molver Road home of Mrs. Thelma Hansen and it was the sight of its head that most disturbed Mrs. Hansen; “There was fire coming out of its eyes, and the head was square like a machine.”

It was Miss Jane Chassen who was with Mrs. Hansen’s 8 year old daughter, Ingrid, who had seen it first; “It was staring at us by the fence. It was horrible. It was not a real person.” When Dr. Carl van Vlierden spoke to Mrs. Hansen after the fuss had died down he found that she was still disturbed by the encounter having had headaches, pains in the legs etc. and revealed that she had felt “some sort of hypnotic effect” –as if being drawn toward the entity. Dr. van Vlierden spoke to three other witnesses who all claimed these side effects.

It was the “eyes” that seemed to have the greatest effect on those who encountered the entity and van Vlierden learnt that the entity was at least 7 feet above the ground.  When it departed, the entity “went straight up, then sideways, and disappeared.”

The 19th of August saw the entity sighted three times and he gave each of the witnesses “pencil and paper, and asked them to draw what they saw. The drawings were all very similar.”

At the time of these encounters there was a “mini UFO flap” going on in South Africa and although no object was seen in conjunction with this ‘flying spectre’ how else can it be explained?  Was it, perhaps, a practical joker? Well, if it was there appears to have been no “I did it! I fooled you all!” afterwards and people who do this type of thing like to get the attention from their confession –even if decades later or someone they know will spill the beans but after a very long period of searching I can find nothing.

In 2020 we could say that it was a hoax with some practical joker using a drone and, yes, it is possible as I think I’ve worked out how the visual side of things could be achieved.  However, this was 1972 and there was a definite lack of technology available for someone to achieve all of this.  We then have to explain away the electrical effect felt by Doris or the physiological/psychological symptoms reported by the unconnected witnesses.

We have these very basic details from FSR but have no idea if they saw copies of the drawings or just how detailed the report was because the one thing missing are the detailed witness statements. There is no narrative such as “It was staring at us from the fence and I called Mrs. Hansen and we watch as it stared before flying off” –basic but taking us from “A” to “B” and the same applies with Elias’ account because he obviously did not feel threatened but what was he thinking or feeling? We just do not know.

There is no type of map showing encounter locations, the geography involved or guide to how far apart the sightings were –at least none were published.  The “flames” could have been lights emanating what looked like flames but speculation based on what we have here is pointless.

Despite wanting to give the outward appearance of a respectable journal, Flying Saucer Review loved the more sensationalist reports because those were what brought in the readers.  Did van Vlierden write up a proper report and does anyone have a copy –the FSR archive at the AFU in Sweden is crammed with papers so searching could take months.

Perhaps, in South Africa, some Ufologist has the van Vlierden report?

August 1988, Germigny l'Evêque (Seine and Marne)

Alerted by an article by Parisien Libéré (October 11, 1989 edition), Jean Sider and a Lumières Dans La Nuit investigator went on site to get more information on what the press had called "The Midnight Giant".

The witnesses, whose anonymity we wish to respect, have kindly shared their experience, despite some initial reluctance, and the following facts have been established: at the end of August 1988, a Saturday (probably the 27th), Mr. and Mrs. S. drive to Germigny l'Evêque, thinking to attend the annual festival of this village.

Around midnight, when they parked on the field that usually serves as parking, and they find the absence of any other vehicle, they decide to go home, understanding that the party was to take place on another date. After having taken for a few tens of meters the small road known as "the path of the bottom of the river", they reach the D97 and, either when turning to the right to take this departmental, or after having crossed it during a few meters a sudden light draws their attention to their left, in a gently undulating field, a white light, in a circular arc, well rounded according to the terms of Mr. S., illuminates the back with a stocky and dark silhouette.

This light slightly illuminates the surrounding woods but leaves the witnesses in complete darkness, Mr. and Mrs. S. disagree on how much time they had spent observing the phenomenon, in any case, after 30 or 45 seconds, according to Mr. S or, after a few minutes, according to Mrs. S, they return to their home.

the following days Mrs. S. tried to find a prosaic explanation for her observation and checked on the spot and at night, that the lights of a hotel are blush in the wood, could not have been the cause of their vision. This check will show him the inadequacy of this explanation. LDLN will discuss this observation in more detail, as well as a number of cases that have recently appeared in this region.

The phenomenon was observed between the two signposts, at the bottom of the field, in front of the edge of the wood. The lower part of the silhouette was indistinct. The sketch was made by the witnesses themselves.

The Riegelsville Encounter

At approximately 0100hrs on the morning of the 15th of June 2012 in Pennsylvania, United States of America, the witness was driving a back road when they came across a curve in the road, upon approaching the curve in the road the witness saw what they thought was a deer on the right side of the road about to run across in front of the car.

The witness braked to stop from hitting the animal and the deer ran out into the road and off into the verge on the left side of the road.

Following this the witness encountered something else, this time it wasn't a deer. The witness goes on to describe what they saw, "I immediately saw the glowing Kashmir blue light brightly emanating from the mask/helmet/face of a tall man standing on the left side of the road. He must have stood seven feet tall or more.".

Next the witness watched the deer run up to the 'man' and the animal acted like a dog would with it's master, "In the next second, my headlights fell directly on the pair. I had slowed down to a speed of about 15 to 20 mph to avoid the collision and had a clear, direct view. This next second lasted an hour in my mind. The creature was similar to a deer in size and overall shape. It had a dark brown/grey covering that I want to call fur but was more likely leathery. It had the head similar to a dog with an elongated snout and short ears. It had the build of a greyhound with long legs supporting a smaller, slender frame. The legs were strange. They may have bent backwards but I cannot be sure. I recall that it moved strangely as it crossed the road. It had no visible tail.".

The witness noted that the tall being had a human build wearing a black suit and had many pockets, there was no flesh visible on the 'human'. The witness reports, "The visor was rectangular with rounded edges and was positioned to be consistent with human anatomy. The light obscured the shape of the head somewhat, but again, it seemed to have a head consistent with human anatomy from a straightforward perspective".

As the witness drove past they believe they made eye contact even though the witness couldn't see the tall beings eyes and as the witness drove away they could see in the rear view mirror of the car the being watch the car drive away.

After making it a bit down the road and out of sight of whatever the witness had encountered they stated, "At this point a very unsettling thing occurred. I felt him call to me. It was like a feeling more than words. It wanted me to come back. It was a strong urge to turn around mixed with feelings of peace and tranquility. Suddenly I realized that I had unconsciously brought the car to a stop. This frightened me to my core. It still does. I immediately floored the car and blew the stop sign at the end of the road as i raced to home and safety".

In the years following this encounter the witness would have a few other odd or unexplained experiences that didn't add up to anything until the witnesses girlfriend came into the picture.

In around 2016 the witness and his girlfriend lived ina rural location, one night out on the porch they noticed a light, "One winter night we noticed a very bright flash of white light coming from the back woods behind the house. It was so bright it could have been lighting. but there was no clouds in the sky. We went to the back yard to investigate, becoming suspicious of a possible intruder taking pictures in out woods. The flashing continued intermittently but with no discernible pattern. I then realized that the light was actually off the ground at least ten feet. This made use uncomfortable and we went inside".

Following this experience with the light in the woods, similar episodes occurred night after night in the woods so the witness and their girlfriend decided to try and find the source of the light one night.

"I tried to flash it and find it with the spotlight but had no luck. It simply flashed as it pleased woth no reaction to us. Then we heard a familiar sound. It sounded as though a 747 was going overhead. I expected to see a low flying airliner pass overhead but was instead shocked as what I saw. A triangular craft passed slowly overhead, maybe a hundred feet above us. It had three red flashing lights at each point and several smaller glowing orange lights in between. It was making the sound of a large jet airplane, however, if it had been a jet, it would have deafened us at the distance it passed. It also moved much too slowly to be any type of jet propelled craft. It was approximately 30 feet wide and had cubic features".

The craft stopped briefly over where the light was and then the craft disappeared suddenly with little to any noise, "We assume that it had collected some sort of probe that was spying on us. This incident frightened my girlfriend and she was no longer willing to investigate the flashing lights that persisted on several occasions.".

The witness proceeded to be woken at exactly 3:33am in the following mornings, this scared the witness with the fear that they might be 'taken' and the witness very quickly stopped talking about the encounters or anything relating to them, even to their girlfriend.

"Since then we have moved twice and have not encountered any more lights. However, we also quit smoking and quit looking. We don't got out late at night. I forced myself to stop looking at the clock when I wake up... I also now use sleep inducing drugs at night and I can't remember my dreams anymore, which suits me fine".

Pontejos Santander Spain -6th January, 1969

I have the following notes and images on this incident and they were sent to me by someone many years ago but with no source.  If anyone can...
